These are all great ideas. I’d love to get to know other like-minded individuals that are tired of the mainstream media. It’s great to have platforms like Substack where we can write what we want without censure. Bari is leading the charge in fighting back against the monopoly of the legacy press and I’m all for it.
Yes! We can express our opinions without looking over our shoulders or whispering, which I find myself doing when speaking with like-minded colleagues in my place of work.
"But we’re all here because we share some important things in common: a commitment to reason, curiosity, independence, decency, and a hunger for honest conversation. In our upside-down world, holding fast to these ideals can sometimes feel lonely. More than ever, we crave the company of people who share our core values."
From Bari Weiss: Some Thoughts About Courage:
"Courage means, first off, the unqualified rejection of lies. Do not speak untruths, either about yourself or anyone else, no matter the comfort offered by the mob. And do not genially accept the lies told to you. If possible, be vocal in rejecting claims you know to be false. Courage can be contagious, and your example may serve as a means of transmission.
We are living through an epidemic of cowardice. The antidote is courage."
I’ve seen no such courage in her community or any other. Following facts going in the direction you desire doesn’t count: Anybody can do that.
So how about some of that "courage" and "commitment to reason, curiosity, independence, decency, and hunger for honest conversation"?
Do You Want to Solve Problems or Protest About Them?
I am an open minded moderate conservative and I am truly grateful for your courage and talent. By standing up to group think and leaving your comfort zone to starting your own platform you are setting a true example of an American hero. God bless you and all of you that she’d Light on the real truth.
"setting a true example of an American hero" -- heroes come pretty cheap these days (just like the liars, hypocrites, and hacks these communities call "geniuses"). And by the way, Bari blew it on the biggest and most costly lie in modern history. Just how swift could she be?

WONDERFUL News, Bari and Friends! These are extraordinary times in which we live - and more than ever before, we need a FREE Press. Thank you for being a light for Truth in a world of Darkness. Stand Courageous, and We Will Be Free💖
Definitely. Hopefully Bari can arrange some events where we can all gather and talk, like a modern day salon. I know Scott Alexander does it for his blog.
He is a troll. The more he is ignored, the less he trashes these comments pages with his "piss and vinegar". I recommend you simply ignore his comment.
Lol. Dude, relax....you take this stuff way too seriously.
My "problem" is that someone would think this comment board is filled with people who would have legitimate thoughts, ideas, concepts, solutions, etc. re: major cultural, social, political challenges.
If you want to hang out a Starbucks and scream about CRT, pedophile teaches, stolen elections, your First Amendment Twitter rights and transgender people, have at it.
Me Three on That!! Since this is a left-coast centric stack am volunteering to assist in arranging a test event.....Bluestone Lane Times Square...Free counseling for Times staffers?
Living in Lexington, KY, though sitting in a park in Cincinnati at the moment. I bet there’s a few people in the Lexington-Louisville-Cincinnati area. Also worth noting that University of Kentucky was selected for the new Heterodox Academy program.
Assuming you’re not familiar with HxA, it is a nonprofit started by Jonathan Haidt devoted to improving viewpoint diversity and open discourse on campus.
It’s called a meetup! A very informative podcast I listen to has a space on their website dedicated to producers (listeners) to arrange their own meetups (public restaurant/bar) all across the globe. I’ve attended one in my area in Jan 2021 and it was fabulous.
If you couldn't include increased attention and subscribers -- on what basis would you make the argument that she's "really making a difference" (or anyone else, for that matter)?
I'd suggest you read this before you answer:
Do You Want to Solve Problems or Protest About Them?
YES, please! I'll be presiding over a local teachers' union governance meeting exactly at the time the FP Zoom event with Jay Bhattacharya starts. Damn it! Watching later will be my therapy afterwards.
Hello Bari! I am a registered Republican, but love your articles and fell in love with common sense when during Covid there was no common sense lol. I recently became a paid subscriber because I believe so much in what you’re doing! Are usually just rely on emails coming to me for content to the Free Press. Is there someplace else I should be looking to find other articles that I may be missing with my paid subscription? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. Kelly Mitchell.
Thanks Bari for the great work, it is so refreshing to read about fascinating topics with creative, open and intelligent people. The comments section is always thought provoking and stimulating. Thanks, again.
Hey Bari. As I was finishing your article today I saw this:
“that we never rely solely on advertisers or investors or an algorithm. “
I guess it surprised me a bit, probably because of the words “solely” and “advertisers”.
I went back to your launch article and found nothing like this, and the word “advertisers” grits on me enough that I thought I’d ask... Do you think in the long run the subscription model will not work effectively enough to grow and you will need to allow advertising? I sure hope not but would like to hear your thoughts on this “mission statement” kind of stuff. IMO advertising cripples independence, and at least I was hoping the free press was going to try to not do this at all costs.
Regardless, love The Free Press and wish it all the luck in the world to prosper and crush msm (without of course becoming one of “them” along the way.)
Happy to have been subscribing from the start of Common Sense, and excited to see it growing into The Free Press.
I’m also looking forward to more of your writing, Bari -- have been reading you since your NY Times days, and gained infinite respect when you left there the way that you did.
Thanks for contributing to a desperately-needed revival of journalism in this country.
This may seem small, but I am surprisingly happy that the name "Common Sense" wasn't abandoned, but instead, reserved for your own voice. Looking forward to all that's coming.
Very exciting times! Happy to be a subscriber. I cannot recall how/when I first discovered you but definitely happy I did. What you experienced working at the New York Times and how you took it and created something of your own is inspiring. I have really enjoyed the content here and the honestly podcasts. The fact you’re from the Burgh makes it all the better! Yinz keep up the great work!

Freedom flourishes in the light. Tyranny flourishes in the dark. Bari, you are the one who has flipped on the light switch. Keep up the good work.
The PC/Woke left not only loves the dark, they hate the light.

Christine, you are speaking to my heart.

I'm in NYC and would love to meet with local Free Press readers.

Lol. Yeah, got a whole bunch of Dorothy Parkers around here. Gonna put Alonquin to shame!!
Piss and vinegar. What exactly is your problem? You are like that nasty character every Dostoyevsky novel has.

I would be up for that!
Great idea! I’m in Raleigh, NC and would love to organize a group!
I'm in the midwest and would attend a meetup or event in Chicago, Indianapolis or a nearby city.
Also Midwest...Cincinnati here

YES, please! I'll be presiding over a local teachers' union governance meeting exactly at the time the FP Zoom event with Jay Bhattacharya starts. Damn it! Watching later will be my therapy afterwards.
Bari - are you charging your grandmother?? <grin>
It’s somewhere between humor and chutzpah.
As was mine.

You can install the substack app on iPad/iPhone, or Android devices.
So that is where I will get all the articles?
Yes

She already has advertisements, they're in her podcast. Maybe she was referring to the ads in her podcast?
I saw that as well and eyes lit up in questioning?
