I appreciate Katie’s lighter take on this, but seriously… I feel like this one is super serious and not enough people are talking about it or concerned.

When I first saw this news the other day I was FLOORED. How are there not unprecedented marches on Washington?? This seems like it merits a VERY strong reaction in opposition and this one has to come from the people. Notably those of us who have been largely silent in the middle. The fact this isn’t a great unifying cause for all Americans makes me physically ill.

Someone tell me if I’m overreacting.

Also, someone please explain how the right are labeled as “Nazis” when the left *checks notes* has - decided to employ federal police power to control information, launched full press campaigns via press and academia to control messaging and silence detractors, promotes forced medical interventions, openly and actively practices eugenics, wants to indoctrinate kids at the school age level, and, oh yeah, are increasingly anti semitic.

Just a few off the top of my head.

I don’t want to label people incorrectly without a biology degree, but I do have one in political science.

There is a great deal we can do and many are doing it. Pick a strong, smart GOP federal candidate who has a real chance to win, regardless of where he/she is and go to work for him/her from your home. If you have someone local who can win, better yet. You can phone call, send money from your home. This work is not easy but we are in a war. And of course, join with like-minded people so you have synergy and friendship. There is much more but please do NOT sit idly by. If you need some names just Google the candidates Trump endorses. Otherwise we will live in the woke tyranny the rest of our lives.

The blind allegiance to Trump is part of my problem with many right wing candidates. Sure, I liked some policies but there’s a better way of doing business and his hijacking of the Conservative party is no different than any other nutter on the left. Wake up! Blind allegiance with no room for nuance is literally rotting America from the inside out.

MAGC, it is not blind allegiance to recognize that there are very few leaders who can stand up to the left. "Blind allegiance" is a slogan. Look deeper and be aware of the sources from which you learn about Trump and those candidates he endorses. Go directly to the source every time, do not pay attention to the woke matrix that filters your news about everything. That will "blind" you to reality. Study Trump's decisions first and foremost.

Remember the woke matrix hates Bari Weiss and you for refusing to toe the part line.

I am against all forms of censorship. The way you censor somebody is you don't listen to them or (gasp) you change the channel. And you certainly don't have a government censorship board.

According to the NYT, "Russia clamped down harder Friday on news and free speech than at any time in President Vladimir V. Putin’s 22 years in power, blocking access to Facebook and major foreign news outlets, and enacting a law to punish anyone spreading 'false information' about its Ukraine invasion with up to 15 years in prison."

The Russians and the Biden administration are going to do what the Russians have done over the last 100 years "punish anyone spreading 'false information'".

In NAZI Germany the BBC said, "The aim of propaganda and censorship was to brainwash people into obeying the Nazis and idolising (sic) Hitler.

It was achieved by ensuring only the ideas and values of the Nazis were heard and seen by the masses."

I wonder if Ms. Jankowicz will expose the Clinton misinformation campaign against Trump that he was somehow in collusion with the Russians and chide the mainstream press for running with this lie, I mean misinformation or the press spiking the Hunter Biden laptop story? Or will she just criticize stories that expose wrongdoing by the left?

I will bet money she will only identify stories as misinformation. that the show the left in a bad light. She is just another leftist panjandrum. She will join the ranks of other autocrats like, Joseph Goebbels and Stalin.

Why hasn't the press been all over this like flies on cow flop? We all know the answer to that. They are the unpaid propaganda arm of the left. Their mantra is "Never do harm to our Democrat pals (or masters)."

With a propaganda/censorship office, our country is entering dangerous waters. I wonder if the cognitively impaired Joe Biden even knows about the "Misinformation Office" and if he does know, does he understand what it is?

Here's a scary thought. Is the Office of Misinformation" monitoring this bulletin board and if so, will men in full length, black leather coats and black leather hats be kicking in our doors at three in the morning and hauling us off to prison to be interrogated?

I am being sarcastic and it might seem extreme but I never thought our government would have a censorship bureau run by a want-a-be thought tyrant.

Sadly, I expect your sarcasm will turn out to be true. There are still people who did nothing but walk through the Capitol in prison, most in solitary. Draw your own conclusions. (See https://www.lawenforcementtoday.com/people-detained-for-jan-6-us-capitol-riot-held-in-solitary-confinement/ and https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/aclu-capitol-rioters-in-solitary-confinement. Although they have gone from 500 held in the summer of 2021 (six months after January 6) they still are holding around 50. See if you can find how many were held for six months uncharged, much less charged and prosecuted for the dozens of damaging riots/murders/looting sponsored by BLM and Antifa in the summer. The discrepancy is striking.)

Are there really people who did nothing but walk through the Capitol on Jan 6th (trespassing, a misdemeanor) in prison, and I emphasize did nothing but walk through? Truth or non-truth? Information or misinformation? Tactically used to promote a point of view, regardless of truth or non-truth? Not a big deal? I thought Katie was onto something when she talked about starting with education in school — don’t believe anything you see or hear on social media without fact checking several sources. While I have more faith in mainstream print media, also fact check them. Draw your own conclusions? Recommend fact checking this one, i could not find any source to verify that people who did nothing but walk through the Capitol on Jan 6 are in prison in solitary. My conclusion, most of the commenters on Common Sense would first believe, maybe then doubt, maybe then fact check. But, who has the time or inclination, then what? Where are we? Was Dr. K providing Information? Or misinformation? Truth or non-truth? Intentionally or unintentionally? Does it matter? I didn’t leave it up to Dr. K to decide for me, and I would suggest the same path for others.

We are living in different realities here in the US. So, I can answer you point by point but you won't care. You are in a new religion, these are some of your articles of faith.

1. In a free society having a federal government body called the Disinformation Governance Board is nuts, a dystopian nightmare birthed by the Biden admin. They have many levers of power to influence media entities and create a chilling effect (the mere creation of the DGB being one of them).

2. Vaccine Mandates yesterday = Double Plus Good! Do what we say to your body or no job. Restricted access to abortion / early life termination = my body, my choice

Choose one

3. Stop indoctrinating children in public schools with any ideology. Math, reading, writing, historical facts...this is not hard.

4. Anti-Semitic attacks in NYC are all well documented. Go to the NYPD "hate crimes" page. These are leftists. The left has cultivated casual anti-Semitism to a high degree, including by black supremacists. There are right wing anti-Semites too, less numerous.

Expand full comment

1. If it were really some sinister plot, they wouldn't be TELLING people it exists. It would be clandestine, like the kinds of stuff the CIA does

2. If people had gotten the vaccine instead of politicizing it, we wouldn't even be HAVING these new variants popping up all over the place because there wouldn't be any hosts left for them. I'm glad my great grandparents weren't as obtuse as COVID-deniers ("I'll be damned if the government is going to stop me from getting polio!!!"). The people planting the doubts are all fully vaccinated themselves--what does that tell you?

3. This one I agree with--but it has to also include religion, which is the most widespread ideology of all.

4. I kind of agree. The far left and far right both have large anti-semitic movements but the far left gets more of a pass than the right and that's wrong.

Expand full comment

I agree Scott. People were not forced to get a vaccine. We all have choices. My job is not a right. If I want to keep it, I have to comply with certain rules. Additionally, aborting a zygote is not the same as spewing a virus on others. Lots of mistakes were made, during the initial phases especially. But hey, we haven't experienced anything quite like Covid (it spread like wildfire) in a very long time. We weren't prepared on many levels!!! So YES, many things could have been better. They dropped the ball on PPE, for example. Democrats and Republicans are equally responsible for our PPE stores. We had a president that was recorded by Bob Woodward in January, pre Covid admitting he knew Covid was very dangerous, that it mostly hurt old/sick, but even young people with certain health conditions were vulnerable. He knew several things about the virus. He waited another month or so to alert us. THEN, he didn't act like a leader during a crisis. What a circus and now we have another circus on our hands. I must agree that it was and still is politized. We aren't paying attention and/or being honest with ourselves if we don't recognize both sides to this. Anyone that didn't notice how Trump politized this and his poor response from the get go, is not paying attention. Of course the Democrats followed suit with the media freak show.

This is an example of the binary—either/or—thinking of children.

Vaccines, medicines ... the processes of life in general are not either/or, but exist across a large range of strength. Vaccines, medicines, these things only add to strengths or immunity which already exists in our bodies. There's some untold millions of cellular chemical processes which are occurring in our bodies at any one time. Vaccines and medicines can help our body to fight disease, but they can only provide boosting to what already exists, they don't create something from nothing. At any one time, 100% of the population is not A++ healthy. People exist with all manner of health conditions, predilections, diseases, or what-ever weaknesses going on in their bodies. Some of us of course are very healthy most all of the time, others less so, all the way down to some people are barely hanging on through the entirety of their lives ... which may unfortunately be quite short compared to others. For these people, vaccines may do quite a bit, but still not enough to prevent their succumbing to the disease. But for all of us, it improves our odds of surviving, and that's what matters.

I know ideas own you rather than the other way around but to answer the first couple questions:

When the current regime labels parents "domestic terrorists" because they don’t want to continue having their daughters raped by "trans" women in bathrooms. The regime them directs the DHS, FBI and the DOJ treat them and monitor them as such, this is using federal powers (like the FBI) to silence opposition and control information.

When the current regime works with social media platforms to ban "problematic information" which goes against the Politically Correct (as in Mao’s idea of PC), this is the regime silencing detractors.

And also, anti-semitism is almost exclusively on the left now.

Expand full comment

Steven N, if a parent is doing this: (a person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.) They are a terrorist. It’s only in your imagination that you think the authorities are trying to silence opposition and control information, just like your imagined: “…daughters raped by "trans" women in bathrooms.” It never happened; the problem is that you take anything that meets your narrative at face value, never checking its validity!

Are you telling me the feds tell the social media platforms what to do? Where is your proof?

The ADL report doesn’t reflect; that “…anti-semitism is almost exclusively on the left now.” I doubt you educate yourself because it doesn’t fit your narrative. But nothing ventured, nothing gained.

You are a fool. A 14 year old girl was in fact sexually assaulted by a biological male who identified as trans. The incident happened in a girl's restroom. This is the Loudon County incident. The Loudon County school administration disavowed the young girl's claim (as you are now) and did nothing. The young man subsequently assaulted another young girl. He was then charged with both incidents and entered a plea to both. The first young girl's father was treated atrociously by the Loudon County school board when he tried to raise the issue. He was attacked by security. He did not use unlawful violence or intimidation. He had no political motive. You should be ashamed of yourself lecturing others about their failure to verify.

You supposition is TFR (The Far Right) is anti-Semitic. TFR supports Trump -> Trump's daughter, son-in law and grand-children are Jewish ... or Semitic. Trump has not disowned either his daughter, son inlaw, nor grand children. Trump has done a lot of favors for Israel, so much so, that in Israel, government buildings are named after Trump.

Does TFR call for boycott and divestment of Israel? No, that comes from the left.

I think there's a pretty big disconnect in the logic of your statement that TFR is anti-Semitic.

As I was growing up in 1990 in Eastern Europe, USA was a shiny beacon among dark clouds, its institutions were something to be admired. I looked up at Congress, Supreme Court, President with admiration, wanted our institutors back home be like this. Now some two decades later, I want anything but that institutions back home are like those in US. Congress is literal representation of corruption (insider trading, personal enrichment while US people suffer). Presidency was discredited by Clinton, then by Bush and his lies. Obama and Trump dint helped. And now Biden is literary burying any notion of credibility that the office of president had.

We used to make fun that in China there was propaganda ministry, now there will be one in USA. Such sad day for democracy.

Sometimes I think, that if US was to be couped by some external enemy, that they would we more merciful that what is currently going on. It is like someone is on purpose trying to destroy US from within.

PS. I forgot to mention Supreme Court, that was one of institutions I admired the most, but after what happed this week, sad sad state of affairs, it is like last bastion of US greatness has started to crumbed to petty party politics.

Expand full comment

Lincoln predicted only we could destroy us. The left is actively pursuing this

Expand full comment

They don't deny it's their end goal, anyway... so...

Expand full comment

Bravo, Raziel, nicely put. I agree that everything that has been happening in our country can only be attributed to an external actor(s) destroying it from within using corrupt politicians and susceptible ( liberally-educated, with low self esteem yet inflated sense of entitlement) segments of the population, regardless of their race or ethnic origin.

It is a shame that the majority of reasonable Americans are too comfortable and afraid to speak up. There is no platform to represent them. The current political parties speak for the noisy fringes, not for all of us in the middle. That's why they are easy to be bought and manipulated. Even SCOTUS is about to hit the rock bottom.

The question is how do we get out of this death spiral without engaging in violence...

Expand full comment

The other side is using increasing violence. You just haven't been paying attention.

people never realize until it is to late to do anything , nothing changes except the year

Yeah, no. It's going to take violence. "The tree of liberty..."

It's not reality, it's hyperreality. Too real to be true.

When we were studying the US System in eighth-grade civics class, I remember thinking how the horrendous things which took place in the Soviet and Chinese systems could never happen here. Age and experience have taught me otherwise. With lunatics like the Disinformation Czarina spinning her performance art online for the world to see and a senile Titular Presidents setting new records for insanity every day, Lewis Carroll and Franz Kafka must be spinning in their graves like tops. They never intended their fiction to become fact.

Because parts of that system are still operative, though, it is still possible to reverse this descent into madness. I see that J.D. Vance won the Ohio Republican primary last night, having come to Jesus about the America First agenda and its founder. Others are doing the same.

The liars and cheaters know they are in deep kimchi come November and they know they cannot prevail - or even keep their jobs - unless they cheat once again. Voting integrity, not Ukraine, not gender identity, not Supreme Court leaks must be our focus now because if we fail in that, none of the rest matters.

Expand full comment

The Supreme Court leak was obviously engineered to give the Left their "Big Issue" going into the midterms. Despite the fact that the elimination of Roe V. Wade changes nothing in blue states (which already have legal abortions enshrined by law), we'll be hearing lies about this issue at top volume from now until November in attempt to convince women that the children they don't have are more important than the children they already have.

Expand full comment

I'm still not sure about that. It would make MUCH more sense to wait for the decision to be released because people have very short memories. Stirring them up NOW about abortion does less to help with the midterms than the same (or similar) decision coming closer in time to the midterms.

Expand full comment

Perhaps you're crediting the leaker with a level of self-restraint they do not possess.

Expand full comment

I'm not sure it matters when the leak occurred. This issue is pure dynamite for the Left. I expect BLM-style mass protests to start up as the weather warms.

Which, come to think of it, might just provoke a useful backlash by November.

Expand full comment

Fundraising is in high gear already.

Expand full comment

Perhaps, but then again, the party may have directed the leak NOW because there's an awful boatload of bad news about to come out about the economy, the ukraine war, hunter's laptop, immigration...

Expand full comment

Well imagine this: the final vote does not strike down Roe, someone changes their mind. The dems still have the fear that it could be struck down.

That leak is pure political theater. It’s release feels planned to me.

Expand full comment

Entirely possible. It's all speculation at this point though until a) the actual opinion is released or b) the identity of the leaker is determined.

Expand full comment

Agreed. Makes no sense to me, either.

Expand full comment

Yeah the other equally plausible theory is that one of the judges was getting cold feet about overturning Roe, so a conservative leaked it to lock them into their commitment to overturn.

Expand full comment

I do not find that equally plausible. The leak does not lock anyone into anything. A Justice who was in the process of changing his mind on the subject could win the love (or at least the respect) of the Left by openly choosing to go ahead and dissent, which would cancel the decision altogether.

I have a cynical fear that the Leftist leaker is hoping that some crazed partisan will assassinate at least one of the conservative Justices, making way for the confirmation of a Leftist Justice before the midterms.

Expand full comment

Choosing to dissent at this point would look like cowering to the mob, so to show they cannot be intimidated, the justices more or less have to stay the course and uphold their votes to overturn.

Yes and no; the idiots who leaked it surely knew that the decision was to be published before November. This was the irrational act of a deranged liberal.

Expand full comment

I received text messages yesterday from two LA City Council candidates vowing to "preserve a women's right to choose." As if they could do anything about that or would even need to in a state like California where abortion rights are championed and embraced with religious fervor. This leak was perfectly designed for opportunists who want to grasp at political red herrings.

Expand full comment

Both parties only seem to care about bodily autonomy when it suits them. I don't love this turn of events, but it's not enough to make me vote Democrat after they've spent the last five years trying to replicate the Chinese Cultural Revolution here.

Expand full comment

I'm glad you have to the good sense to recognize that you can't pick up just the pro-choice end of that turd.

Expand full comment

For sure, no. But I kind of wanted to vote Republican because they got the Vax mandates shot down and because I care about 2A. I default to Libertarian, but sadly, third parties aren't really viable here.

Expand full comment

I also default libertarian, and I protest-voted for the Libertarian POTUS candidate for years, until the Democrats lost their minds. I used to vote judiciously to keep my state purple, but now I wouldn't vote for a Democrat for dogcatcher (they'd probably either refuse to actually catch dogs because "it's not fair" or else slaughter everyone's pets in the name of PETA--you could never be which).

Expand full comment

You're so funny. Sad but true about that dogcatcher.

Expand full comment

That's what was a little funny about 2020. I had literally never voted for a Republican in a presidential election before then, and I don't think I'm the only one. The dems were so baffled that Trump made gains after their concentrated campaign to get rid of him. It didn't seem to occur that he could simply be perceived as a lesser evil.

Expand full comment

I forget who said this, but it is SO true: forget parties and labels--vote for the outcomes or policies you want to see happen. If more voters adopted this principle, we could finally start down a better path as a country.

Expand full comment

I am VERY biased, but my experience with friends is that people who favor Trump do so because of his policies and DESPITE his personality. Friends who disfavor him do so BECAUSE of his personality and DESPITE his policies. Seems to me they need to figure out which side their bread is buttered-on.

Expand full comment

Yes, excellent example, and my experience as well. If I owned a company, and I had a choice of hiring Steve Jobs or that spineless clown running Disney, the choice would be obvious. Results are what I would be buying. American voters need to learn that.

Expand full comment

Absolutely. I have been saying this for two years. Without voting integrity NOTHING else matters. 2000 mules just released.

Well said. Interestingly, Chomsky praised Trump's position on Ukraine a few days ago. My personal take is that if Trump were president, we wouldn't even be having this discussion; the invasion would have never happened. Failing that, George Washington hisownself said it in his farewell address: stay the hell out of Europe's wars.

You play to your strengths and your opponent's weakness. We saw in WWII what America's manufacturing sector could do; nearly every historian believes that America's assembly-line prowess vis à vis socialist Germany's manufacturing incompetence won the war. Finished a great YouTube video on that last night.

If we stop attacking our manufacturing base, stop sending American jobs overseas because of low labor costs and start MAKING THINGS again, we will leave China, Russia, all the rest in the dust, falling further behind every day. That's how you win.

Having come from J.D. Vance's part of the country, I was a bit put off by his "Hillbilly Elegy." Not that most of it wasn't true; I felt he had an agenda and was willing to use his family and friends to further it along. He was an avowed Never-Trumper in 2016 also. I'm still a little wary of him - just like I am of Joe Manchin, - who is from my home state and whom I've met - but Vance seems willing to admit mistakes and seems to be a real America First guy. Trump accepted Vance's apology and endorsed him; if that's good enough for the two of them, I suppose it's good enough for me. We have bigger fish to fry than to ruminate over past petty grievances.

I've been a woman on the internet since 1996, and yet somehow I've managed to avoid all these terrible woes.

Perhaps coincidentally (perhaps not) the only #metoo experience I've ever had was when a hotel porter in an Italian hotel tried to grope me in an elevator. I was barely 14, but I managed to protect myself until the elevator doors opened.

Still, I've wondered, since #metoo, if any of my fellow girl scouts in our group was less fortunate than I was.

I believed (falsely) throughout my youth that I must be horribly ugly, since I wasn't getting hit on like all the other girls were. After a lifetime of experience, I've come to the conclusion that, without even really being aware of it, I give off Don't-You-Even-Go-There vibes. Even my husband of 35 years didn't try anything with me when we were dating that I hadn't greenlighted first.

I had a very unconventional childhood so I knew early on how to take care of myself but didn’t know until university that I exude that aura of don’t fuck with me. Several professors and many fellow students made mention of it.

I don’t need that twit Jankowitz or however her name is spelled for anything whatsoever.

I’m tempted to create a Twitter account for the express purpose of telling her and that scum bucket Mayorkas that I will say what I like where I like when I like. They don’t like it? Come and get me.

Of course Jankowicz is a comedic caricature. A loon living in her fantasy world of woke lies and fables, in an apartment filled with cats and a fridge filled with wine and yogurt. Which would be perfectly fine, unless and until she is given power. Then it all turns malevolent and dark. And not the least bit funny.

Aside from our loved ones, our most precious gift in life is liberty. Jankowicz with power is a clear and present danger to that. As are that vile troll Mayorkas and his boss, the senile imbecile who embarrasses our nation on a daily basis. People who threaten our most precious liberties are not our "political opponents." They are our mortal enemies. You mistake that existential difference at your peril.

I agree with this comment. It may not be as satirical as some comments, but I believe in it's truth. Happy Common Sense exists, but unfortunately, the people who need to be "deprogrammed" from the propaganda of the Leftist lies, will probably never read Common Sense or allow themselves to actually be exposed to any information that disagrees with their (hateful, facist, dangerous and bigoted) beliefs. Maybe it is true, "you can't fix stupid". But I hope it is not too late. Thanks Bari. First thing I read every morning to help align myself with reality. Maybe "1984" should have been banned years ago, so this new generation wouldn't find it's vision of the world so aspirational!

The Disinformation Governance Board, or the Ministry of Truth, as critics dubbed it, has an ambitious mission: to stop the spread of misinformation. That sounds nice. Except, what one woman calls “misinformation” another might just call “information.”

While I enjoyed the entire article, the above quote was the perfect summary of what's so clearly wrong about the concept.

Also just listened to your latest Honestly podcast with Andrew Sullivan. While overall I liked it I felt compelled to reply here about it just to say that I thought what he said about Chris Rufo was a terrible smear. Discussing his work exposing teachers saying/doing troubling things pertaining to gender and trans ideology, Andrew said that Chris is basically accusing them all of trying to rape children. Which I thought was an obscene thing to say; Chris is just trying to expose some of the troubling behavior in public schools, I highly doubt he'd agree with such a thing. Correct but the disparity in vote enthusiasm up until now has been huge and favoring the GOP on almost all issues. Traditionally voter enthusiasm is a decent metric anticipating turnout. Unmarried, college educated women under 30 has historically been a very low turnout group. This ruling *may* be enough to drive them to the polls to actually vote. On the other hand the Dems may overplay their hysteria and feed into the larger disgust the nation feels towards anti-humanist, anti-natalist misanthopes on the left. It won't be enough to tilt the election compared to other issues but it could drive larger war of the sexes antagonism... time will tell.
