Off topic but this is scary and it confirms what we, except for the moron, have known all along. Biden is senile.
Can you imagine what would happen if Joe gets a call in the middle of the night that China is readying their missiles for a launch and he has to make a decision?
Biden's own DOJ says he is an 'elderly man with a poor memory':
The book is Social Justice Fallacies, Dr. Sowell's 40th book. Even at 93, he's brilliant. He's talked about his book in videos available on line. The MSM ignores him because he's a black intellectual who doesn't subscribe to liberal group think.
I just finished A Conflict of Visions yesterday. Yes, in some places, much too heavy.
But overall, very helpful in framing unconstrained vs. constrained and the underlying thinking of each. Really helps me in better understanding where the two types of people are coming from during conversations. It also supports my theory that people are just hardwired and most of the time will not change their “vision”.
Yes. True. But I think everybody would understand the whole deal a lot better by first reading the bios of Fredrick Douglass and Booker T. Washington, and Washington is the most important.
Not sure if I agree with his argument that black cultural pathologies were learned behavior picked up from agrarian poor whites at the turn of the century, etc.
You might just be living in a tiny little echo chamber if you believe SNL is "catering to the right" by allowing Nikki Hailey, the candidate no one wants, to make a brief appearance, and letting Shane Gillis, an enormously popular comedian who is a self-professed liberal, host.
Leftists simulteanously deny that cancel culture even exists while throwing a hissy fit any time anyone they already cancelled is allowed to return to their previous profession/role in society to any degree. In this new religion, forgiveness does not exist.
To be fair, the primary wasn't the action, the caucus is where the RNC electors are awarded. Haley hasn't put any effort into NV. However, she will lose here in SC later this month.
Because Nevada Republicans didn't like the way the the primary was set up, they said anyone who participated in the primary couldn't also be considered in the caucus. That's why Trump wasn't in the primary and why Nikki won't get any Nevada delegates.
Yes. She was initially running as the candidate of the diminishing neocon wing of the GOP. When not failed, she is the never Trump candidate, funded by some Democratic donors.
I live in South Carolina. The entire point of her ad is attacking Trump because of his age and “chaos”. Not on policy.
Her position on abortion laws is also sensible. I am Pro Life, but laws which prohibit abortion after 15 days will increase support for laws which provide for no restrictions on abortion.
you have to draw the line somewhere - at 15 days, 1 month a sexually active, aware, possible mother would have an idea that she should check on her state - at home or clinic. Personally, I'm a very strict Pro-Life person with one strict exception: the life of the mother. You want to add in situation of rape then, sure, but then I think that the rapist needs to be named/ID'd and punished to the fullest extent of the law (which in my mind's means for at least a homicide charge should the mother choose to abort - oh yeah, I really really despise rapists for the evil doers they are). I'm also not comfortable with removing the father from the equation - it takes two to tango and, so far, two to create life. If the father can be held accountable for the life created (YEAH - accountable) but has no say in whether the life created is of value...
And I am very cognizant of the situation in Texas of the mother who had a Trisomy 18 baby on the way. That was our situation back in '93, our first child. We learned early enough on that we could have ended her life but we chose the path which was the hardest all around. Born early, we lost her at birth (T-18 is very very incompatible with life with a few exceptions). But out of that grief comes "blessings" that are essential to being fully human. And yes, she was NAMED before the pregnancy ended.
my niece did the same. Baby Grace has an intact body and a burial spot to remember her by. by contrast, had they aborted, she may have been cut to pieces and the parts thrown away
My condolences to your niece - the "ritual" of burial and service is part of the benefits.
Our daughter was cremated, her small nondescript marble urn is on the mantle [had to make sure - it’s been 31 years and time …] and we had a small memorial - mostly for us, rather than for the child as she was known only to us.
Never been put that way but I’d say it’s in keeping with my known character.
I’m not excusing the parents, near everything I’ve heard is that these were mediocre parents, at best. I was very involved in my son’s life (as much as anyone can be with a teen) and was fairly comfortable with his strengths/weaknesses; teachers at school, adults at church all commended him; I know we’re not fully capable of all our children do and are - talk to parents of multiples (nature::nurture) and you’ll hear stories; and I allowed him latitude at home to explore his limits that were not permissible in the wild.
But when our educational systems are stepping in more&more to supplant the parent(s) (gendering, transing, cases of abortions, etc), I won’t let them off for THEIR failure. At the very least the student should have been kept in the office area until the parent(s) arrived.
We do see occasional rehabilitations by leftists after a suitable period of contorted and twisted contrition and public professions of faith in the success of reeducation.
I would agree, actually, I think he's far more conservative than he would like to admit even to himself, but he's described himself as liberal. In his first big standup special on youtube he jokes that even though he looks like a conservative, he's not and that he didn't vote for Trump.
It's probably not unreasonable prosecuting parents for being accessories to mass murder, but more than a year is just silly. Any time spent in jail is unpleasant, and 15 years to my mind is grossly excessive, particularly when we are releasing people who actually pulled triggers in five or less.
The whole "sending a message" thing seems to me mostly a power trip and expression of mild cruelty. "Get those bastards" say those who never "got" anybody in their lives.
And I don't think it will have a deterrant effect. I may be wrong, but that is my gut sense. First off, many people will not hear this story. Probably most. Secondly, those who do will not see how it applies to them. What parent who is emotionally disconnected enough to raise a school shooter is going to be aware enough to worry about it? Most kids never become shooters ,not even the most obviously screwed up ones. Arguably, the bigger story than school shootings is probably how many kids dream about them but never act on those impulses, in most cases likely because they are not quite ready to die.
That is not a story about guns. That is a story about a society that is imploding.
The shooter was tried and sentenced as an adult responsible for his actions. Now the parents are being tried as if he were a child and they are responsible for his actions. Which is it? The law should be consistent.
They're not sending the message to actual future mass murderers. They're not trying to deter the mentally ill or their parents. The message is to gun rights advocates and to deter gun owners.
The message is to lock up guns but a potential sentence of 60 years is delivering the message with a sledgehammer. It's not too much to ask to keep firearms secure from mentally troubled teens.
They could get up to 60 years each according to the article which is ridiculous. We don't even give that kind of sentence to pedophiles or rapists. I think this could potentially set a very dangerous precedent. There are good parents who raise bad kids and vice versa. How many teenagers and young adults are depressed and no one knows until after they commit suicide ❓ Look at Robin Williams. He committed suicide because apparently he was suffering from depression with his diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia. Who knew ❓
I agree with you entirely, but we ARE talking about California, after all, where the leadership believes that “the carceral state” is ipso facto proof of the systemic racism and oppression of our White supremacist country…so…
My concern in this case is that it came across as the school covering its butt after dropping the ball. Schools go around claiming in loco parentis all the time, they had the child/adult in their control, they were concerned enough to call mommy and yet returned the student to the classroom?
If they were concerned enough to call mommy/daddy why didn't they check his locker/ backpack/vehicle for the means to act upon his urges?
As for the drawing of a gun - not a concern as boys draw guns all the time, make guns out of fingers, even go around yelling bang bang. {makes me wonder what we did before gunpowder - pretend to throw spears, shoot an arrow? -- viscerally empty gestures is you ask me} What does concern me is if the "help" was suppose to be from the shooter or the shooter in the drawing in question.
If there are laws that provide for same so be it. But "novel legal theory" prosecutions are a very, very, very slippery slope. They just beg for an emotionally enflamed verdict. And in the Crumley case in particular shouldn't the school personnel be culpable as well?
I watch the trial. As a parent I was stunned this mother paid so little attention to her son’s cries for help! But, in fact, she was so wrapped up in her horse hobby, job and extramarital affair, she was neglecting pretty much everything else.
NO, I am NOT saying she should be judged about having an affair! But her son was virtually left alone unsupervised in a home that was cluttered & filthy.
YES, they did have some family times together. Mainly taking the boy to a gun range to learn the correct way to stand & shoot his new Christmas gift gun. And, NO, I am NOT saying that caused this horrendous crime, but it definitely was part of the equation resulting in this school shooting.
It will be interesting to watch the father’s trial. I’ve wondered where he was and the part he played in this dysfunctional family.
Is the punishment just? I don’t know. Will it send a message to other gun owing parents with children??
Why can’t she be admonished for her wrongs, affair included? She wasn’t focused on her son, because she was focused on herself. Behavior has consequences. We need to start expecting more from each other and stop pretending “other people’s (bad) choices” are not relevant to our ills. I’m not advocating for more govt overreach; rather I want small communities to expect respectability and honor.
We do. But prosecution under "novel theories" should not be one of them. There is no end to that and it is abhorrent. She was convicted for being a bad mom. Period. In a valid prosecution the affair and horse evidence would not come in.
GA, to clarify my statement about her affair. It was part of her defense attorney’s argument that “lots of people have affairs” and the prosecutor was using it to further negatively influence the jury. Which is absurd.
Of course she wasn’t on trial because of her affair. But, she was on trial to prove her neglect of, and indifference to her son’s cries for help. The affair played a part in her distraction and preoccupation.
Who gives a 15 year old a pistol? That's not just irresponsible but crazy.
If you are a family that hunts and you have taught your children firearm safety, you give him or her (or for the nut cases - Them or they) a bolt action hunting rifle.
"My concern is about prosecutors taking it upon themselves to go beyond what they are supposed to do from a legal standpoint because of external pressure or their personal sense of justice."
After the "mostly peaceful riots" of the summer 2020, I think expecting prosecutors to do ANYTHING from strictly a legal standpoint is an exercise in futility....
I wondered why nobody had mentioned the school's role. They tell the parent about the picture and express deep concern but then the school doesn't check the kids' backpack? Is there some privacy law that they weren't allowed to check his backpack?
The "controlling teenagers is difficult" is the ultimate cop-put and used far too often today. Parenting is hard, hard, hard work and requires constant vigilance while balancing giving enough appropriate freedoms to one's teenager.
"Idealism is directly proportional to the distance from the problem"
If your kid had been murdered by this disturbed young man whose stepparent had just given him a pistol, I bet you would be outside the jailhouse with a rope demanding justice.
The gun was given illegally -he was below the age in his state.
I also believe the school principal should hold some culpability for sending the killer back to the classroom, especially without searching his backpack. Numerous teachers had expressed alarm about this student, all ignored.
My son was just accepted into the university of Michigan college of engineering. I’m excited as it is a top ten program, in state tuition and 45 minutes away. While I was going through their website, I was stunned at how dei is everywhere…in engineering! The website states “Our dedication to engineering for the public good is inseparable from our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).” Is there anything we can do as parents or taxpayers to advocate that dei does not have to be inseparable from engineering? And saying to not send our kid there is not helpful. My sons spot will be taken by someone else in an instant. I have three more kids after him so am thinking about this from a long term perspective.
My son is ChemE major in Fl. The DEI theory is in UF a bit. Completely terrifying to think about civil engineering and DEI. I just don’t want the damn bridge or building to fall down. I really don’t care about the background of people.
Medicine is just as bad - applicants to medical school and residency must submit DEI statements and are only eligible for certain scholarships if they are part of an URM (under represented minority). It’s deplorable.
Great news folks. Your new doctors will not know how to treat your hypertension and diabetes, but they can lecture you on the multiple genders and dangers of Climate Change. And most importantly, they won't fat shame you!
It has the opposite of its intended effect as well. It’s hard to see a very young Dr. and not wonder if their med school curriculum was as good as it was 50 years ago, and it’s even harder to see a minority young Dr. and not wonder if they actually passed their classes. All of this owing to DEI efforts lowering standards.
Same as our grandson, you need to just make sure they know how to think for themselves and ignore groups. If they have been taught critical thinking and had discussions with parents to help them learn to make their own decisions, most of the time they will be fine. Congratulation, a great school with some dumb staff!
My daughter is a PhD candidate in Physical Chemistry @ Berkeley and she has been indoctrinated in DEI. There is not much a parent can do other than talk to your kid and be sure they are taking in all points of view on this matter. The key to me, is to focus your kid on MERIT, and ensuring that decisions they make in the future take into account this import aspect of our society. As it stands today, much of the workplace is poised to require historical commitments to DEI as well as future intentions as part of the application process. The horse has left the barn until our society is able to purge this scourge from our institutions.
"Chapter 11 How Identity Politics is Harming the Sciences is a huge trove of data on the self-harming ‘identity’ obsession now spreading to the science and technology (STEM) academy and much of corporate America too. The National Science Foundation has established an ‘Inclusion across the Nation of Communities of Learners of Underrepresented Discoverers in Engineering (INCLUDES) to bankroll “fundamental research in the science (sic) of broadening participation”. HM comments dryly that “somehow NSF-backed scientists managed to rack up more than two hundred Nobel prizes before the agency realised that scientific progress depends on ‘diversity’.” A study by the American Association for the Advancement of Science found “systemic anti-LGBTQ bias within STEM industry and academia.”"
I went to grad school at a state college in a rural Midwestern state. If I'd known then what I know now, I'd have looked very carefully at the background and work of the professors in my subject area at various colleges BEFORE chose which ones to apply to (I made my application choices based more on location than anything else). And I made my final decision based on cost (I was offered a scholarship and a GTA position).
It turned out that my department--despite being located in a rural red state--was dominated by young, Far Left professors, who filled their curriculum with political indoctrination. There were only a handful of older, objective professors there, on the verge of retirement. I could have found this all out ahead of time if I had investigated the department's professors, if I had looked at what they were publishing.
You cannot assume that any given department will be a suitable place to learn, simply on the basis of its location or its affiliation. Find out everything there is to know about the professors who may be teaching your kids.
Same here, and I’m in the field of agriculture. My major advisor was an old guy - I was his last masters student - so I was kind of insulated from the nonsense. My other advisor, though, figured out that he could climb the academic ladder without doing anything if he played the right diversity cards. My thesis and its resulting publication was the first paper with his name on it in several years, and his name was neither first nor last. He claimed to be Mexican (ahem, Latinx), though, so he was still promoted to full professor at that time. Lily white, too. The old term pretendian comes to mind.
It’s too bad. In fact it’s really sad. I love my alma mater. My wife and I both have two degrees from that institution, and it’s our favorite place on earth. We’ll never donate a dime, though.
Sara, but is it really a top 10 program if they are that into DEI as criteria? It’s my thought that many once great schools and programs are resting on their laurels, because the DEI initiatives have really taken down the quality of any of those institutions.
Very true! graduates do get great jobs post graduation, though. U of M offers engineering degrees other in state schools do not that my son is interested in. We could pay more and have him farther away. My husband is a U of M alum so there are multiple draws. He said the university needs more people like our son (conservative Catholic white male). Not committing to anything yet, but I feel that is where we are headed.
I have a friend whose granddaughter is going to Purdue in the fall. She's a smart conservative who I'm sure checked on the level of the school's DEI programs.
My son is in there too. 4.5 hour drive and out of state tuition are deterrents. Loved the campus though. They had remarkably less dei than u of m when we visited. We are scheduled to go back and check it out again in April.
My little brother went to Wyoming. He ended up transferring when his life plans changed, but despite it being our school’s main rival, my dad was really happy that he went there specifically because the word diversity was never mentioned during orientation.
"Neither she nor the school officials realized he had a gun in his backpack. Hours later, he went on his rampage." - Why is only the mother being prosecuted? Why aren't the teachers, principal, and school board members all locked up under the jail? Hell, the janitor at the school should probably get 10 years just for working there.
Yes, and convict those teachers when the kids they transed behind parents' backs commit suicide in their twenties, when they realize it was all a fad and they want their bodies back.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but only the mother knew the child COULD have a weapon in his possession—I don’t believe the school was aware that he was gifted a semi-automatic handgun within days of the incident.
I was, of course, being dramatic for effect. But with that said, it seems strange that he had no other notable behavioral or performance issues at school? Medications? Altercations with neighborhood children? Come on man!
Robert, he did have “other notable behaviors or performance issues at school” which resulted in the mother being called to the school.
This was brought up in the trial. The mother’s reaction was one of “Is that why you called me to come in? Anything else?”
The school showed her the drawings and notes he was putting on his homework & test papers, clearly illustrating justhow depressed and disturbed the boy was.
Well and most schools have social workers or psychologists. Why didn’t they pull him aside and help him when he asked for help? I don’t know enough about it, maybe they tried, but he did ask for help.
Shirley, I watched the mother’s trial. Part of the Prosecution’s argument is that after being alerted by the school + seeing his very violent, disturbing drawings, she did nothing except ask him if he was depressed.
She never arranged for therapy, because she said his one & only friend moved away and he was lonely.
We all know why the school didn't do more. Their hands are tied by liberal unions. If history and law have taught us anything, they've taught us you can not legislate parenting.
Because parents create their offspring from conception onwards? And teachers get them only beginning at age five or six?
The parents look pretty trashy. Apples don't fall far from the tree. As a precedent, I like it.
And yet, and yet, don't we all know lovely people whose two children grew up to be lovely people and the third had been a trial even as a youngster and became a brute? Who terrorized them in their old age? Never underestimate the power of DNA. It doesn't always mix in the same way.
Actually, the village is not raising children -- not that I'd want it to. That was fuzzy book-publishing propaganda. It's just not a fact: It's parenting or lack thereof that makes kids. I always knew which of my students had rules at home that they abided by; they were my happiest, best-adjusted kids.
When schools usurp the roles of parents, that's just bad schooling based on an even worse psychobabble-educational philosophy. As for in loco parentis, that really is true: On class trips, and in my classroom, I was responsible for the safety of my kids. During lockdown drills, with my students behind me, and the classroom door bolted, I still looked around me to see what I could use to kill an intruder. Always. (Silly me. A lacrosse stick? A big metal stapler?)
The pendulum will swing back, but not, I fear, before even more damage has been done. In the meantime, we have the Crumbleys, and the usual run of school mass shooters' oblivious parents, as well as every third Tyshawn's single mother.
I think kids need, and want, rules. I would say that no one is raising far too many. But I also believe some of that is the village raising the child concept. It gave some/many parents the notion they were getting a free accountability pass. I know some of those. They were confused or overwhelmed by parenting and happy to turn over responsibility therefor. And all of this the educator knows more than the parent stuff is not helping. Some parents who actually parent are being investigated. Personally I think that it takes parents, two in an ideal household, and the support of the village for the parents.
For forty seconds yesterday a bemused nursing home patient couldn’t remember the terror group Hamas. Fortunately the Certified Nursing Assistants known also as the White House Press Corp were present to provide support. Short of Kiev being vaporized should that should be today’s top story. Even CNN found it newsworthy.
Unfortunately, for the most part, TFP is a cone of silence for criticism of our current "President", or for that matter even simple observations about his bizarre behavior. TGIF spent far more ink on George Santos (hilarious ha ha ha...) than Biden whose clear mental decline has serious implications for everyone who cares about this country.
And it’s going to get worse. It’s an election year and like all ‘democrat at the core’ news organizations they will show their true pro-left and anti-right bias in less subtle ways — doing their best to exert a little mind control I suppose. Shame on them.
BC- yes many "newsworthy" stories overlooked- I listened to the Bret Weinstein / Tucker Carlson convo regarding Brets trip to Central America, Panama, the Darien pass where all sorts of Military age peeps crossing up and into Mexico amd US. The word 'invasion' was used - its worth a listen to decide for yourselves. Hoping TFP will also
One of the most enlightening hours of critical analysis on the most dangerous event happening in real time. I didn't want that interview to end.
Most alarming is the second camp of military age Cinese men only; no women or children. They are invading our country as soldiers of war, germ, cyber, or other.
"The Hundred Year Marathon" by Michael Pillsbury diagrams China's objective to displace America as the world's superpower. It began under Mao with the start of the Cold War and it's unfolding right before our eyes.
This is not conspiracy theory. Anyone still think those China spy balloons were accidental?
I just wonder when. Will it be as soon as they get enough people in the necessary locations? Or will they wait a few years for our society to weaken further?
This is happening right in front of our eyes and therefore PURPOSEFULLY being allowed by our entire governmental & Military Establishment. Our corrupt political leaders must be in such deep sh*t and being blackmailed &/or threatened- that they are ALLOWING this.
Listening to the interview was chilling. And I don't easily rattle.
This is the perfect story for one of the Main Indie pods to invite as many other (Left, Right,Center) pods to JOIN together and ALL report on this. It's not a LEFT -RIGHT issue
To me it's clearly blackmailing Joe Biden because of his son Hunter and the shady deals he's been engaged in in China. Imagine what the CCP has been able to capture/gather in the last years. I'm not doubtful much the same exists in Kiev.
It really and truly does. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up it was so scary to see, and yet, he's still in the job and still the main candidate for the Dems, unbelievable.
One member is enough, especially when the majority of members are there to protect Biden. How many members are needed to point out a crime, for instance?
The mother does bear some responsibility. But I will ask the hard question. Do cities now start try mothers of a gang banger and car jackers since mom knows they are involved with bad people or not in school? I do not make this a light issue, I am asking where and when are parents no longer responsible for their young kids actions? If it is good (I am not defending her) this case, should it not be good for all of the youth crime in cities where the parent is missing in action?
Is it just me or is there not much dumber than potential rich doctors complaining about race and equity. Why not give their license to someone who is disadvantaged? I for one, would never use one of these air heads as a doctor. Much like the climate people who increase climate emissions by their actions, I consider them to be non-serious and idiots at worst.
That IS the question. In fact, I’d say it’s the elephant in the room. And let’s be honest- it’s easier to begin this new “parental accountability” program by prosecuting a White parent than a parent of any other race.
Yes, parents of black inner city criminals (really, the victims in the binary victim/oppressor mentality) would be next. Talk about flipping the narrative.
“I for one, would never use one of these air heads as a doctor.” I have bad news for you: within the next decade or so, these doctors will be distributed throughout the healthcare system in the United States. You will not really have a choice. At the same time, DEI doctrines will also be operating behind the scenes in hospitals, clinics, etc.. not sure how you would be able to avoid it.
Worse yet, it will be those whose wallets cannot afford to choose their doctor who will be stuck with them. Which, of course, is not an issue for those who create all these polices - their access to power and wealth means that they will never encounter the consequences.
Suspects he might be violent so - the teachers call the parent? WTF?! He’s in their custody! Do these worthless idiots take no responsibility?! The first thing you do is confront the kid and search his backpack! Lefties have RUINED THIS COUNTRY!
I am not excusing the school, but when I was a teacher, I was told never to confront a student - for any reason. Nor was any school employee allowed to search a student or his/her possessions. We could request that the police be called to search a student’s vehicle, but only if there was “probable cause.”
The reason for such lack of pro-active measures: threat of parental lawsuits.
No. The real reason was the liberal world order that empowered “activist “ judges and slime-ball ambulance chasers! In the 70’s a teacher could discipline students. But “corporal punishment” was too militaristic for the lefties. Bring it back!!
I live in Nebraska, and the university is undergoing budget cuts. First proposal has $800,000 axed from DEI budget (who knows what the total budget is). I will send this article to the members of the board of regents and my representative in Nebraska legislature.
A troubled child almost always comes from a troubled home. It’s a generational cycle. Punishing the parents is an attempt to put a message of deterrent out there, but I believe this method of law will do nothing.
If parents are to be held accountable shouldn't that also include other violent acts committed by their children especially after a first incident. Should we not also have clear rules regarding expulsion after a second violent action in a public school, especially for any kid who kicks another kid in the head ( an act that can maim or kill)? And then there is what to do with a kid who assaults a teacher.
I grew up in the former Soviet Union, where the law held that there were no bad children, only bad parents, until the children were 16. Parents were financially responsible for their kids' vandalism, and they often did time for their kids' violent crimes.
I don't think this policy made anyone a better parent. It did result in parents giving up their problem children to the state, where they were raised in orphanages or institutional boarding schools. Prior to such abandonment, the kids were often abused.
I'm not sure what to think about this particular case. The mother bears some responsibility, but I fear that this ruling will result in a lot of kids getting beaten by their parents.
Of course that's the easiest case. My question is what about parents who knew their kids were prone to physical violence and chose to do or say nothing or whose home environment might lead to violence against others whether in schools or otherwise. What is the standard , a concept that is a big part of the rule of law.
If this mother will have to pay for the crime her son committed then every politician, whose destructive soft on crime policies have led to injury or death, should also be held accountable in a court of law.
No. Mothers of gang bangers and car jackers will not be charged or prosecuted because the Dems will release them all to "restorative justice", hold a dog and pony show of giving them counseling, and all is well. Their agenda doesn't involve doing anything about street crimes, in fact they seem to welcome the chaos and deterioration. What they care about is gun control, specifically gun control as applied to white people, especially white people of dysfunctional backgrounds who are, however awful they may be, are also the forgotten and left behind. But no one cares about them and they sin by being white. And Dems love to hold them up as representative of all white people in rural areas who own guns. They're the ones who will be charged and put in jail. The deterrent effect is not to deter actual crazed gun mass murderers or their parents. It's to deter Second Amendment and gun rights advocates, and gun owners.
For the record, I'm neither white nor do I own any guns. I'm just telling it like it is.
Some might now. But back then, in my district, no way! The last two years I taught (retired 2015), we weren't even allowed to ASK students to put their phones away . Violation of their rights.
Chuckle. When my kids made the bad decision to wear their hoodies in my classroom, I strolled over to them and pulled them down.
I know, one teacher got into trouble because some Muslim girl was wearing a hijab under her hoodie. But I knew which of my girls wore hijabs. I still wouldn't let them wear hoodies.
Somehow I got away with it. Also with taking away cellphones until class was over.
"Spree Killings" where a nutjob murders as many people as possible are awful, especially when perpetrated on children. Thankfully, considering we're the 3rd most populous nation on Earth, they are also rare here (leftist "data" on the subject captures gang / drug violence, which is totally different). Additionally, we are not the only nation on Earth that has them.
The subject in this story killed four people with a gun here in the US. Would it be different if some nutjob killed 6 with a knife at a school, like this incident in China a few months ago? (Link Below)
The sad reality is that if someone puts their mind to it, even a mentally disturbed mind, mass murder cannot always be prevented. A single Islamic terrorist with a truck killed 86 people in Nice, France in 2016. That is more than any mass murder in the US with a gun, ever. The largest student mass murder at a US school happened in 1927 in Maine and involved no guns (one nutjob, homemade bomb). The first school mass murder here happened before the US was founded when three Indians massacred and scalped a teacher and ten students at a school in Pennsylvania in 1764 (again, no guns).
Many years ago in a Chicago suburb a teen had some friends over. Parents were home. The kids drank, left, driving, and one of them had an accident and killed someone. The father of the host kid was convicted and sent to prison. This was a huge teaching moment for my teen son.
Thomas Sowell has a new book out. The Free Press, for the very first time, should acknowledge this great thinker and explore what he has to say.
Especially during black history month. Sowell should be required reading in every high school and college in the country.
You mean Progressive Black History Month.
Off topic but this is scary and it confirms what we, except for the moron, have known all along. Biden is senile.
Can you imagine what would happen if Joe gets a call in the middle of the night that China is readying their missiles for a launch and he has to make a decision?

one day for Lincoln. one day for Washington. one day for "love". and a whole month of blackness.
Thomas Sowell is no progressive.
You do understand sarcasm right?
Just gonna leave this here. Morgan Freeman solves racism in less than a minute; Mr. Sowell would approve:
https://youtu.be/GeixtYS-P3s?si=_9n4ZL5sYllIG0Fm
Yes he would. One minute of straightforward simplicity. Hopefully others will take the minute to watch and listen
The book is Social Justice Fallacies, Dr. Sowell's 40th book. Even at 93, he's brilliant. He's talked about his book in videos available on line. The MSM ignores him because he's a black intellectual who doesn't subscribe to liberal group think.
The left and MSNBC hates blacks that stray off the Dem/Com plantation.
"The Televised Mental Institution MSNBC"
Dave Rubin
An interview with Sowell is an excellent idea. Make it happen FP!
They should, but will they? I’m sure if it was the Obamas there would be a pre order section.
Joe Biden, "I hear dead people."

Commonsense is not part of the curriculum.
Great idea. I finished A Conflict of Visions by T Sowell a month ago or so. Very good read, a bit heady. But very good. A brilliant man.
Especially Douglass' " What to the Slave is the 4th of July."
No DuBois?
You were gone for several days and I concluded you were organizing and leading pro-Hamas demonstrations at your university, Moron U.
I found this song that fits you to T:

I'm listening to "Black Rednecks, White Liberals" right now. The guy is tremendous.
His book (all of them but especially this one) is absolutely brilliant. It should absolutely be on everyone’s list.
Which book please.
He has so many.
Thank you in advance.

Not sure if I agree with his argument that black cultural pathologies were learned behavior picked up from agrarian poor whites at the turn of the century, etc.
So personal responsibility!

Lol. Not exactly. You need to read a bit work from your "black friend." You think it's genetic.
Oh, what have you written my friend?😘

Oh, as usual, something you cannot refute my friend. :)

You can tell Nikki isn't popular when she loses almost two to one to "None of the above" in the Nevada primary.
SNL got too smirky and smarmy for me 25 years ago, and I was always as hip slick and cool as anybody (without portfolio).
Exactly. Nikki Haley might have a few common sense view points of the right
(No men in women sports)-but not many.
Nikki has no views on anything.
You sound like the way MSM treats anyone who is conservative.....very foolish.
I believe that Mike is implying that Nikki can be bought. And is.
Yes. She was initially running as the candidate of the diminishing neocon wing of the GOP. When not failed, she is the never Trump candidate, funded by some Democratic donors.
I live in South Carolina. The entire point of her ad is attacking Trump because of his age and “chaos”. Not on policy.
Spot on.
This is the correct take.
Your decision was not for the faint of heart. I commend you.
Well, thank you.
Again, thank you
I respect you tremendously
You mean 15 weeks, correct?
Haley is a RINO and sounding more like Liz Cheney with her TDS! Maybe Nikki will pick Liz as her VP - would be a perfect match!
Yep, just think, If Haley and Cheney were elected we could be in some sort of war for eternity
Wellat least as long as the cash therefrom flowed.
We do see occasional rehabilitations by leftists after a suitable period of contorted and twisted contrition and public professions of faith in the success of reeducation.
Shane Gillis could never have made it on SNL anyway. He’s too funny. He doesn’t work for their new business model.
Shane Gillis is not a liberal lol
Makes sense.
Who knew ❓
To give some perspective, in California now, the average sentence for rape (without aggravating factors) is 3-8 years.
https://www.bamiehdesmeth.com/california-rape-sentencing-guidelines/#:~:text=Rape%20and%20spousal%20rape%20are,or%2011%20years%20in%20prison.
Unacceptably short. A rapist is likely to rape again. In my opinion, violent rape should be a capital crime.
I agree with you entirely, but we ARE talking about California, after all, where the leadership believes that “the carceral state” is ipso facto proof of the systemic racism and oppression of our White supremacist country…so…
And many have raped more than once.
And how much of that is actually served?
"Will it send a message to other gun owing parents with children??"
I hope so but it won't. Dysfunctional parents will always be dysfunctional.
So true
Who gives a 15 year old a pistol? That's not just irresponsible but crazy.
If you are a family that hunts and you have taught your children firearm safety, you give him or her (or for the nut cases - Them or they) a bolt action hunting rifle.
How about criminal negligence? Stupidity from a parent who had little or not interest in care for or giving her son guidance??
"My concern is about prosecutors taking it upon themselves to go beyond what they are supposed to do from a legal standpoint because of external pressure or their personal sense of justice."
After the "mostly peaceful riots" of the summer 2020, I think expecting prosecutors to do ANYTHING from strictly a legal standpoint is an exercise in futility....
Interesting. So in the civil tort/civil example you note, the object would be monetary damages for the wrongful death ?
Although controlling teenagers is very difficult, disregard for the safety of others is a crime. The school officials were just as guilty.
'Disregard' is a very subjective term. Interpretation would be unending.
Haven't we learned that it is impossible to legislate parenting?
"Idealism is directly proportional to the distance from the problem"
If your kid had been murdered by this disturbed young man whose stepparent had just given him a pistol, I bet you would be outside the jailhouse with a rope demanding justice.
I know my comments have no relationship to the law but it does deal with human nature which you didn't address.
The gun was given illegally -he was below the age in his state.
I also believe the school principal should hold some culpability for sending the killer back to the classroom, especially without searching his backpack. Numerous teachers had expressed alarm about this student, all ignored.
Well said. Are we going to prosecute parents who buy a car for a child that then gets in a fatal wreck.
Only parents that are right of center on the political spectrum.
I agree. Reactions from family members about this case were solely emotional, with zero critical thinking about the implications of the case at all.
For balance, be sure to read the article in Reason, “Mom’s Manslaughter Conviction for Her Son’s School Shooting Sets a Dangerous Precedent.”.
What might be even worse than hearing “This rocket ship was built by the lowest bidder” (APOLLO 13) is “This bridge was built by a DEI hire”
Deplorable!
This assumes that the material being taught is not compromised.
You might find this interesting Sara....although perhaps not in a good way: https://grahamcunningham.substack.com/p/how-diversity-narrows-the-mind
It's all about the individual school.
Send him to Hope College instead. He will get a fantastic education, engineering degree, and won't be brainwashed.
This proves you never leave home without your Democrat get out of jail free card. It is one of the benefits of belonging to a Teacher’s Union.
Yes, and convict those teachers when the kids they transed behind parents' backs commit suicide in their twenties, when they realize it was all a fad and they want their bodies back.
It's ridiculous that his backpack was never searched.
At many schools cars, backpacks, and lockers are not allowed to be searched.
More liberal nanny state governing.
Did you read the other article? If you did not please do. It provides a more balanced perspective.
It’s egregious to be sure. She bears culpability. I do wonder why the school didn’t do more when he literally asked for help.
Yes but the village is raising the child now remember? Educators profess to know what the child needs. So what happened here?
Exactly, how come his backpack wasn’t searched?
Because union-run schools won't allow it. Then they cry "We must do something."
But not to worry, now he is talking to the dead German Chancellor as well as the dead French guy. A savant for sure!
😂😂😂a medium for sure our Brandon.
Unfortunately, Biden is no Theresa Caputo.
Biden and the Covid vaccines always get a pass.
Hoping TFP will also
Investigate
One of the most enlightening hours of critical analysis on the most dangerous event happening in real time. I didn't want that interview to end.
Most alarming is the second camp of military age Cinese men only; no women or children. They are invading our country as soldiers of war, germ, cyber, or other.
"The Hundred Year Marathon" by Michael Pillsbury diagrams China's objective to displace America as the world's superpower. It began under Mao with the start of the Cold War and it's unfolding right before our eyes.
This is not conspiracy theory. Anyone still think those China spy balloons were accidental?
It will be 9/11 all over again, except much much worse.
I just wonder when. Will it be as soon as they get enough people in the necessary locations? Or will they wait a few years for our society to weaken further?
Probably depends on the next election. If we get 4 more years of the same, they won't need to do anything at all, we'll do it to ourselves.
It beggars belief
It really and truly does. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up it was so scary to see, and yet, he's still in the job and still the main candidate for the Dems, unbelievable.
One member of the press corp made Biden’s dementia crystal clear. Why do you describe that as support?
In DC we have 12 and 13 yr olds carjacking people at gunpoint. Nobody talks about going after their parents. I wonder why...
Great point. Didn’t even think of that.
The parent issue. Isn't she a white women? Of course she's responsible.
Do cities now start try mothers of a gang banger and car jackers since mom knows they are involved with bad people or not in school?
No, only White People.
Sounds like the school is culpable for not checking his backpack to discover if he had a gun or not
Spot on!! The school
I don't think schools are allowed to search a student's locker, even though the locker is school property.
I live in Nebraska, and the university is undergoing budget cuts. First proposal has $800,000 axed from DEI budget (who knows what the total budget is). I will send this article to the members of the board of regents and my representative in Nebraska legislature.
When I read that story I thought - citizens of Nebraska need to get involved and drop the hammer. Thanks for your action!
Insightful, thanks. I didn't know that about the USSR (I am sure there is a long list of things I don't know about the USSR).
I think the key here is the parental purchase of a gun for a kid with manifest mental health issues.
Of course that's the easiest case. My question is what about parents who knew their kids were prone to physical violence and chose to do or say nothing or whose home environment might lead to violence against others whether in schools or otherwise. What is the standard , a concept that is a big part of the rule of law.
You are completely correct on the question of standard of law. Slippery slope.
There used to be reform schools for such kids. I remember seeing the ruins of one in upstate New York. Well, who knows what they were like.
You know, Shawshank was formerly The Mansfield Reformatory.
Nailed it.
The school officials who didn’t check his backpack - where are they now?
That's the incredible thing. Concerned enough to call the mother in, they didn't have the sense to check his backpack and locker or cubby.
Or don’t have legal authorization.
Actually, I think schools do have the right to search students' belongings if they have cause to do so.
I was about to say, But who'd 'a thought a kid would bring a gun to school? Good Lord, nowadays, students' having weapons is certainly a possibility.

Thank you. I appreciate your research on this matter.
No problem. A few simple facts are useful in this complex issue.
Many years ago in a Chicago suburb a teen had some friends over. Parents were home. The kids drank, left, driving, and one of them had an accident and killed someone. The father of the host kid was convicted and sent to prison. This was a huge teaching moment for my teen son.
Who was this a teaching moment for?
