Never loved the Royals only Princess Diana, and then clearly she wasn’t a royal.

Skinny, many people in the world loved and still love Diana without realizing how her image was carefully crafted by herself and her team. It is coming out now in bits and pieces without fanfares. And Diana was royal and was pretty much destined to be one by marriage too.

Diana is descended from two illegitimate children of King Charles II. If you look at her family tree, which is available online, she is also connected to Mary, Queen of Scotts. There are numerous links with the royal family.

What most people think of Diana, as a humble, simple and inexperienced young woman, is actually a myth. I read that even her habit of hanging her head down and looking at everyone sideways was explained by her brother not as a sign of shyness but because she was very tall and wanted people to feel more comfortable talking to her LOL.

Expand full comment

Wow thank you for info, to me Diana was beautiful, humble, gentle and kind even if it was crafted. She acted like a commoner perhaps that’s what endeared me to her and also she totally annoyed her husband and mother in law, think people loved her for that alone. She was more popular than they were the palace couldn’t handle that.

Expand full comment

Yes, that's how we all felt about her. She also closely worked with photographers to create the images we thought were authentic. But she was hardly a commoner. Many even said Charles married up!

He always was authoritarian, funny that people couldn’t see it, and some still can’t even though we know beyond a shadow of doubt that the Chinese govt worked to get him elected the last two times, maybe all 3 elections, who knows since we aren’t allowed to know.

I’m genuinely curious, did you want to be fooled?

Expand full comment

No, just uninformed. I'm from the US, not Canada, so I had no reason to follow him closely or learn too much about him. I knew what the liberal US MSM told me about him, and he seemed charming. But during Covid and also with the child transitions business, it was impossible to miss his authoritarian ways. Then the more I read, the more it was pretty clear he's a total authoritarian. And Canada is worse than the US on wokeness. At least we still have legally protected free speech here.

Expand full comment

Correct. Our zealots point out that free speech is an American concept.

Of course it’s a human right, but a government owned and operated by the Chinese government has no use for human rights or free speech.

We are so screwed.

My goal is that we one day have a canadian govt again.

I hope you can prevent the same from occurring in the USA.

And indeed a far more accurate depiction than this vapid hagiography. No, the world did not "fall in love" with these two pathological narcissists. That wedding was a farce.

Note the hokey carriage ride around the quadrangle with a gushing crowd near the chapel entrance, a dwindling bunch of hangers-on the second leg, and no one on the third.

The image epitomizes what Harry and Meghan have seen happen to their lives.

It is, of course, their own fault. Had they chosen to take some well-offered advice from their staff, they might still be enjoying free money from the Crown Estates and admiration from the public.

See feet. Shoot feet. Claim selves as victims.

Expand full comment

Yes, but Meghan was not happy with living a millionaire's lifestyle. Meghan didn't like living at Frogmore Cottage; it wasn't grand enough to suit her tastes. She complained that she was not paid for the work she was doing for the Crown. She wanted to be the star, something she would never be able to achieve - the monarchy is a hierarchy and Harry and Meghan would never achieve the status or importance of William and Kate. King Charles paid for her ~$40 million wedding, gave her a £15,000 bracelet as a present from the Royal Family and they were living a more than exclusive lifestyle. But this was not good enough for Madam Markle. She's just insipid. It's that simple. She disrespects the Royal Family and does nothing for the Crown, yet she insists on keeping the "Duchess of Sussex" title. If Markle was honorable, she'd return that title, as should Harry.

Expand full comment

Yes I never fell in love with these two. This author is unfortunately a slave to identity politics. She loved them because Meghan was bi-racial and because she initially ignored her narcissistic virtue signaling persona. She also mocked the previous women Harry had dated because they were white and upper class. Sounds a lot like judging someone on the color of their skin without regard to their character. Ms. Froelich helped create the little woke monsters she now skewers with her own woke adoration of color over character.

Expand full comment

Wow, James, that sounds so presumptuous. What am I missing?

Expand full comment

I didn't like her effusive adoration and exaggeration of how popular Meghan was: "the world fell in love with her" (no they didn't) and "Americans couldn't get enough." Actually the majority of Americans I heard from thought she was a self promoting, virtue signaling activist who was preying on Harry's naivete and she proved them right. I also looked into Harry's ex flings and steady girlfriends and thought it horribly condescending for her to refer to them as a bunch of leggy trust fund blondes. Many of the girls he dated were very educated and accomplished and were "working women" like Meghan. It was obvious to me that the author valued Meghan's mixed race status because she had bought into the woke identity politics agenda that has permeated our culture. I found her statement that all of Europe hoped that the royal couple would usher in a new era and face of a "Lilly White" monarchy offensive and racist. Is there something inherently repugnant about an all white monarchy or an all white family. Does one purge their white guilt and gain identity points when they infuse their Lily White bloodline with some color. I didn't know a thing about this author before I made my comments. I presumed nothing about her but rather, relied on things she wrote to arrive at my conclusions.

Expand full comment

I confess that I did fall in love with Meghan and genuinely thought the BRF was ushering in a new era. She was not only American, but of mixed race. It seemed so modern. However, you were spot on - she was, and is, "a self promoting, virtue signaling activist who was preying on Harry's naivete". It is condescending to refer to Harry's former girlfriends as "leggy trust fund blondes", although, let's face it, they were all that - but, indeed, they were so much more, too. You are correct, James Martin; there is, nor should there be, "something inherently repugnant about an all white monarchy or an all white family", nor would we consider an all black African royal family repugnant.

Thanks you for your feedback and open and honest dialogue. I think most white people and most men have, out of misguided shame and guilt, have been slow to call out the anti white and anti male rhetoric that now permeates almost all of our institutions; our schools, the MSM, and now our corporations and military. These poisonous and racist double standards have been festering for decades, but are now firmly entrenched within our Ibram X Kendi/Robin DiAngelo "anti racist" culture; or should I say "anti white racist" culture. These racist bullies hope to succeed in silencing white resistance to their hatred by mocking whites with terms like "white privilege," "white tears," and "white fragility." No other race or ethnicity would tolerate these blatant and Democrat Party supported racist attacks on their culture or race; and no I'm not a white supremacist for defending my race, my family, and my person. My comments aren't coming from some white extremist. I'm a 67 year old left of center Independent/Democrat who now sees the Party he's voted for 80-90 percent of his life become the most dangerous U.S. Party in American history; and the only thing necessary for the triumph of this kind of totalitarian evil is for good men and women like us to do nothing.

Hi! Theresa, You ask interesting question to which I reply would Biden get yours?!

Please note that I am not a US citizen so I cannot vote in your country - I assume you are American? (although it appears that there are plenty of non citizens who are being registered to vote so maybe I should drop by and cast my ballot!)

Anyway to give you my hypothetical answer Yes! I feel that either candidate you mention is preferable to your current president. BUT I would also like to add that back in 2016 I would not have voted for Trump or Hillary.(again a hypothetical answer)

However, in 2020 I would have voted for Trump based on his policies, to give a few examples, school choice, moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, some of his prison reforms and foreign policy etc.

Also you have to take into account the fact that my hypothetical choice is based on what is best for me and the region I live in, where US foreign policy plays a strategic role - not everything about choosing a leader is about what happens at home. The US has a diverse population and many voters I am sure, think about foreign policy implications when they vote.

In my defense, for I feel that your question is a loaded one and there is a need to defend my position (I could be wrong and you could be wearing a MAGA cap as I type this!) I consider my self to be non-binary as a voter and would register as independent. I am a paid subscriber to Tulsi Gabbard on the LOCALS platform She was until recently a Democrat. Things are rarely black and white but complicated shades of grey on that I am sure we can agree!

I love America. I have lived there several times totaling more than 12 years in all, in the 1980s 1990s and 2000’s. Both my kids went to university there.

I can only wish America the best and hope that the current divisions that are tearing the country apart can be healed, for as Lincoln said “a house divided cannot stand”.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. To be clear, you'll never see me in a MAGA hat and it's upsetting enough seeing vehicles with "Let's Go Brandon" stickers. Yes, Joe Biden has many flaws. He surely is not a stellar candidate. May I also add that I'm glad you are unable to cast a vote in the 2024 election? It's nothing personal; you seem like a nice, educated person. But imho, there is no one worse than Donald J. Trump. He's mentally unstable. For anyone who thought that those of us, terribly disappointed that "Trump won", were overreacting in November, 2016, just look at the damage he's done. MAGA = lunacy. Just my 2 cents.

Expand full comment

Thanks for taking the time and effort to reply to me. I felt your reply was emotional rather than factual. I’d love hear for example your views on free school choice for parents. Trump was for making it easier for parents to decide where to send their kids to school. While the Obamas worked to block this - which I found a tad hypocritical since they were sending their girls to the finest private schools in the DC area that money could buy.

I try not to do amorphous criticism rather base my comments on inconsistencies I see between what people say and what they do.

Michelle Obama has talked about white racism yet she bought a house in Martha’s Vineyard a predominantly white neighbourhood.

I understand your abhorrence of Trump but feel it’s is based on superficialities rather than substance. Wishing you the best as you make your choice in the next election but the pickings are thin on the Democratic side right now.

They have active communists in the party. One chairs the Senate Budget Committee. They support the woke movement. They support gender identity classes in K through 3 grades. A kindergartener has no idea what they are talking about. They support schools helping kids get abortions and encouraging kids on gender matters without telling the parents. They support the teaching of CRT in schools. They support open borders.

I could go on and on about why I will never vote for them.

I am not fond of the Republicans. Both parties are heavily populated with idiots but I think the Reps have more than their fair share. However, I will vote for the Reps because I think they are less toxic and hateful than the Dems.

Just look at how the west coast states are spiraling into anarchy. People can't leave these states fast enough.

Look at the cities with the highest murder rates. They are all run by Dems and have been for decades. Look at how the states and cities that were burnt and looted by the communist thugs ANTIFA and BLM. The worst destruction was in Dem led states and cities. Hell in Seattle these thugs took over downtown Seattle and the Dem mayor nor the Dem governor did nothing to stop these communist anarchists.

California has had some of the toughest gun laws in the nation for well over thirty years, but implementation is lax and inconsistent at best. As a teacher, I have seen one student be expelled for bringing a potato gun to school well after hours and another be suspended for three days for firing a real gun out of a school bus window just as it was pulling out of the parking lot. My husband had to fill out a four-page affidavit to pick up an 1875 wall-hanger, but one of my students that same year came up with a gun within hours when threatened by members of a rival gang (he killed an innocent bystander that evening). One of my former students told me he could still get a gun with one phone call - no problem (this was one of the few who had managed to escape gang life).

If we don't teach our children empathy and compassion, tolerance and anger management, personal responsibility and ethics, all the gun laws in the world will not put an end to this type of violence. But where's the political clout in that?

What about what about? You brought up Trump in this thread, Anthony, I didn't. I only responded to what you and Skinny wrote about him.

As for my other comments on this thread, I use Whatabouts when the writer insists a Republican was treated worse than a Democrat in the same circumstances. For instance, "Crackhead Hunter Biden got off with a wrist slap because of Drooling Diaper Joe! So corrupt!" That prompted me to bring up Roger Stone, the deep-Trump Republican who evaded ten times the taxes Hunter Biden did, yet received a DOJ deal far more lenient. Hunter had to plead guilty to criminal charges and pay the taxes and penalties. Stone only had to pay the taxes and penalties, no pleading guilty to a crime.

"Whataboutism" is perfectly appropriate when the commenter insists the other tribe gets the gold mine while his or hers gets the shaft.

I'm still right on Trump's unhinged rants. He's playing right into the Democratic election handbook by going all-caps nuclear when they needle him. Every eruption costs him votes in the general. Fine by me because I want him gone--I'm not shy about my feelings about Trump--but it's a stupid strategy for a guy who claims he wants to win next fall.

Hi, Amy. I feel your pain, as I feel the same way--politics, which always had grifters and criminals but they were far more contained, has devolved into a capital city full of :"Fuck you, where's mine???" I'm not defending the Biden family--if they're guilty, off to the hoosegow they should go--but I have to reserve judgement until I can read the details in court charging documents. Until then, it's hard to know what to believe and disbelieve, there is so much spin and propaganda going on from all parts of the political spectrum.

I mention Trump's kids because this board is so heavily anto-Biden that we need to remember that grifting is the family business for Republicans as well as Democrats.

We deserve far better leadership, but won't get it until we start rewarding competence, not showmanship, in office. Thanks for writing, I agree with you across the board.

There was a microscope up every member of Trump’s family and organizations for nearly a decade. His accountant is in jail because he didn’t claim college tuition the company paid for his kids. But please, stop trying to “whatabout” factual, evidence based charges against your imagination. You’re not fooling anyone.

Any "whataboutism" I might employ pales in comparison to the Everest of whataboutism erupting from Trumpland over his factual, evidence-based federal indictment for espionage and insurrection: "What about Hillary?????????"

How do we know Biden received money from China? We won't until a thorough investigation is complete...unlikely with the DOJ roadblocking work by the FBI. You should have watched the whistleblower live with Brett Baier last evening.

And unlike the Bidens, the Trumps had real jobs in the private sector.

Additionally, there is nothing to suggest they sold access to DJT when he was in office. Furthermore, Robert Mueller spent 2+ years and $40M investigating the Trumps and found zip on them.

This would be the same "roadblocking DOJ" that negotiated a plea deal for tax evasion from Hunter Biden, in which he had to admit to a crime in exchange for no prison? The same DOJ that went so light on Trump pal Roger Stone for tax evasion ten times as large as Biden's, yet only had to pay the back taxes and fine, DOJ required no plea to criminal charges?

Public sector employment is just as real, and legitimate, as private sector. Some are lumberjacks, some are senators, some are writers, some are cops, it's all good. One is not more lofty and moral than the other.

In the specific you mention, "real jobs in the private sector" are easy when you work for Billionaire Dad, who gave the kids and their hubbies/boyfriends cushy no-work jobs on the campaign as a bonus.

Russiagate and the Pee Tapes were based on a whistleblower, too, and we see how real those turned out to be. Sorry, but watching a whistleblower on Bret Baier OR Rachel Maddow does not make me swoon with conviction. Give me court documents that are filed under risk of perjury, then we can talk. All else is politics.

I almost don't know where to begin responding to your comments.....

1) Yes, public sector jobs are real and legitimate as private sector (did I say they are not?), but don't try to tell us that you can become a multi, multi millionaire working for the government, pal. (Unless you're engaged in illegal activity somewhere, like Nancy Pelosi.)

2) Maybe the DOJ went light on Roger Stone because they had a weak case. Few care because it was Trump who they were after. Spend 3 years & $40M investigating ANYONE and you're likely to find a crime somewhere. Congratulations, but still nothing from Mueller on Trump.

3) Just because most people aren't born to wealthy billionaires, like the Trumps & Kennedys, is your politics of envy going to hold that forever against the children? Sleep easy on that one, buddy.

Lastly) Watching a whistleblower alone, anywhere means nothing until you consider what substance, if any, they provide.

Expand full comment

1. "Did I say they are not?" Yes, you did, by implying that Trump was better because he worked in the private sector. The sector you work in doesn't mean squat.

2. The vast majority of public sector workers do not become billionaires, or even millionaires. Who rakes in the dough? Only those in the highest profile public jobs: elected national office. They get campaign funding, speaking tours, book tours, consultancies, vacations on billionaires' airplanes, and other money-drenched opportunities because the private sector is seeking favors from them. The hoi polloi in both sectors buy and sell each other like two-for-one Tuesdays at the Golden Corral. And it's all legal. Which is another problem, the legal bribery of politicians by the private sector.

3. "Spend 3 years & $40M investigating ANYONE and you're likely to find a crime somewhere." GOP spent more time and money then that giving Hillary a political rectal exam and didn't find a crime. Ditto the exam given Trump on Russiagate and the Pee Tapes. Most political "investigations" are expensive, virtue-signaling shams, whether conducted by GOP or DEM.

4. Weak case against Roger Stone? My reading says they had him and his wife solidly to rights. But the DOJ routinely goes lightly on politicians of both parties, not just on The Biden Family (tm).

5. What politics of envy? I have plenty of dough, they should envy me. My point is that you're jonesing for more investigation of the Biden kids, so it's perfectly legitimate of me to pump for more investigation of the Trump kids--multibillion-dollar deals by Jared Kushner while his FIL was president, anyone? You want to drop all investigations into all the presidential kids? Fine by me. But do it for everyone, not selectively.

If you retire at 65 with $100,000 pension guaranteed for life with inflation adjustments and with survivorship benefits for your spouse, then you have a multi-million (not multi-multi) dollar asset. Many govt employees get this AND they did not pay tax on the accumulation of this benefit.

They’ll even get to keep the ill-gotten loot. They, like Meghan and Harry, are the toppest of top notch grifters. If Harry had been smart he'd have taken the pick of "his usual choice of leggy, trust-funded blondes" and lived a happy life as another royal descending down the chain with each new niece or nephew. Instead he's condemned to a life as the butt of jokes for being the cuck of a completely self-absorbed harridan. Some "fairy tale."

Americans, with a the exception of very few, were disgusted by her entitlement. King Charles III, then Prince of Wales, did everything to make her feel welcome, including walking her down the aisle when her own father could/would not.

What’s sad about this is what could have been. Meghan and Harry could have been selfless and humble servants of the people in the UK, truly helping the Commonwealth which has people of all nationalities and “people of color,” and inspiring minorities in Britain. This is why I admire Catherine and William, and Sophie and Edward, and above all, Princess Anne. Yes, they are wealthy by reason of birth (although Catherine and Sophie were middle class who married in), but they work VERY hard at serving the people in their country and ALWAYS put the focus on others.

Grifter is the perfect word for H & M and I wonder when she will file for divorce.

Lots of people misunderstand the purpose of the British royal family. They are the UK equivalent of Mike Rowe.

Rowe goes into workplaces where people get dirty, where the work is physically demanding, where workers are sweaty and exhausted by the end of the day, but where people outside that workplace have little regard for what they do; and Rowe shows how important the work they do is, how clever the workers are who do it, and how much they--and others like them Rowe doesn't get to showcase--deserve our recognition.

That's what the royals do too. To someone who doesn't understand, it's all silly and pointless. It's just traveling for miles to shake a few hands and pull a curtain open. But, they go to a workplace, a charity, school, or community center; and for one hour, the people there get to show the camera the important work they are doing. For one hour, they have the spotlight aimed at them and are told that someone recognizes them and knows their importance. For one hour, the commoners get to be the center of attention.

Markle, and even Harry, never seemed to understand that. Markle has been quoted as wondering why she wasn't getting paid for things like this. What she, in particular, couldn't understand was she wasn't the star of the show during an appearance. Her job was to bring the cameras and the media, and then point at the people around her and say: film them!

As for Rowe, we talk about the Kennedys or the Clintons, or the Obamas as America's royalty, but because he is much closer to doing what the British royals actually do, Rowe's our real royalty. (I'll take him over Harry any day!)

Thank you. This is exactly right.

Very well stated, and 💯% correct. For all of their flaws, they are well aware of their roles. It’s the price they pay for their riches. Meghan doesn’t understand that. Not sure Harry does either.

There were no "reality" movies of Rock being gay or Doris being swindled out of all her money by her husband. We had to wait for the French new wave and the English kitchen sink movies to show us the other side of life and they were called "art" movies that you had to seek out - they didn't run in the local multi-plex.
