The fact that our young people have been captured by this hatred masquerading as wokeness should be a wake up call to every liberal everywhere. Wokeness is no longer just silly nonsense we can look the other way on, it is deadly dangerous nonsense that we must rise up and push back on vocally. The consequences are too dire to let our universities become havens of illiberal hate and other crazy ideas. It’s time to speak up and speak out. The fear of cancellation be damned.

Free speech tho. Academic freedom.

This reminds me of my favorite meme of David French, in black and white, standing in front of a 1940s train car being loaded with people and the thought bubble over his head is

“We must defeat them in the marketplace of ideas!!”

My prediction that everyone will eventually agree with me that Democrats are possessed by Satan, but only when it is way too late, continues to be my best prediction.

What makes you think they don't love and side with Satan? This summer, the largest Satan Convention gathered in Boston. Look it up. Clips are probably on Youtube. Oh btw, I've been told the Church of Satan or whatever central organization that heads this flock is "not really" about worshipping Satan, but a pro free speech organization.

When every Dem is possessed by Satan, they'll just say Satan is the victim and we need to respect his/they pronouns.

The Satanic Temple and the Church of Satan are two different things.

“One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.”

“The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.”

“One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.”

“The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.”

“Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.”

"People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused."

"Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word."

Their Seven Principles aren't "Satanic" are they? But then again; neither was Satan. In the Jewish tradition, they are God's Attorney General, testing folk to see if they are the real deal. The role they undertake in 'Job' and the Synoptic Gospels. Y'all are victims of the bad Greek of your clerics.

I think leftist America is lost. California, Oregon, Washington, New York, and those hard left states are not going to be coming back to sanity. The radicals have taken over there and once the far left takes over something, you don't get it back.

You can save part of America, but frankly, it will take a national divorce to do it.

Expand full comment

So... you want another Civil War MTG? It was MTG (Marjorie Taylor Green) who only just last summer suggested a “national divorce”. That’s what a civil war is. I know this Hamas/Israel War is beyond just upsetting and frightening, but keep your head and don’t believe that another American civil war would in any way make life better for anyone.

I’m a liberal Californian who stands in solidarity with Israel and Jews everywhere. Hamas are cowards. They don’t mind killing 10 of their own children if that’s what takes to kill one Jew. It is their sworn obligation. They long for martyrdom by believing wearing a bomb vest to kill as many Jews possible will bestow them that honor. That is not rational thinking even in the deepest grip of war.

Seeing young people, especially college students, demonstrate in favor of Hamas is very distressing. It frightens me.

Expand full comment

I'm a center-right Jew in NJ who grew up in a Democratic family. I basically went through a "red-pilling" very early in life, for a variety of reasons too long to go into here.

A national divorce is a civil war only if the ruling leftists (and the Democrats now are mostly an illiberal -that is, intolerant of dissent - leftist party) want it to be. If those of us on the right are so "deplorable" and "irredeemable" (to use Hillary's words), then why don't you want us gone?

The belief among Republican rank-and-file for secession is not yet a majority, but it is a growing minority. We see a left that has captured every institution, that is trying to silence us, economically blacklist and marginalize us, vilify us, demonize us and dehumanize us. We see an election process that is corrupt and rigged against us (long before 2020 we understood that there was a Democrat "margin of fraud") and we see a weaponized justice system that lets Democrats basically get away with anything but calls people who speak up at school board meetings about allowing "trans men" in girls' bathrooms as terrorists. You and I almost certainly consume different media apart from this, so you don't get a feel for how badly those of us not on the left feel threatened.

Let me ask you - do you believe the differences between leftist and rightist states are greater now than between the North and the South before the civil war? We can't even agree these days on what a woman is, for God's sake. If so, what stops a civil war now?

As for lambasting Marjorie Taylor Greene - yes, more conservative than me, but if I had to vote for either her or a member of the Squad running against each other in a Congressional race, I'm pulling the lever for MTG.

It hits Jews more directly, but to lifelong Jewish Democrats, I ask this - which political party will keep you alive? After that, all other issues are secondary. How can you worry about abortion, gay marriage and environmental issues if you are dead?

Expand full comment

If there is a Civil War, it will not be fought with guns. The left controls every institution. They will merely cut off your water, electricity, Internet, heat access to medical care, access to credit cards, and slowly siege you into submission. The people who think guns will be the answer, I ask who will you shoot?

Expand full comment

The free states control three key items - food, energy and geography (the free states are largely contiguous, the socialist states are not.)

Starve out the leftist cities for 72 hours and they would break.

Expand full comment

Wow. I never really thought about that aspect. Not one single shot needs to be fired. With as much data as the government has on each of us it won't be hard to completely halt an individual's very existence--just by pushing a button. Did you vote the wrong way, join the wrong group, speak the wrong thing at a school board meeting? Suddenly you have no internet, electricity, your debit card doesn't work and armed IRS agents are at your door.

Expand full comment

I don't expect a true civil war in the United States, because I think there are very few on the right who would fire on American troops, or even police (FBI, ATF, EPA might be different). But I can definitely foresee battles in the streets between modern Red Guards and Stormtroopers.

Expand full comment

Red Guards and Stormtroopers are essentially the same thing - you can consider Antifa and BLM to be the street muscle.

The youngest few generations are probably lost. Once brainwashed it’s really hard if not impossible to get them back. We need to focus on the current and future generations.

Our education system is full of teachers and administrators who are brainless and brainwashed liberals. We (normal people) need to participate in school boards and volunteer to help in schools any way we can. We need to set up alternative schools. We need to donate money to good schools not the idiots who run schools like Harvard.

Leftists know that if they control education they control the future. We are close to a tipping point. It’s a long haul solution, but really the only one.

It's not only the education system. Gen Z, which make up the 18-24-year-olds who side with Hamas, were mostly raised with no religious faith. They don't have the Biblical foundation of the Ten Commandments and Do Unto Others of the New Testament. They were not raised to believe that murder is a sin that will send you to Hell. If you were raised with that, even if you let your faith lapse and stop practicing, that always stays with you. These Judeo-Christian principles are what helped this country survive this long and get through the Civil War, Great Depression, two World Wars and 9/11.

Without this, I'm afraid we're fucked.

On another point about who killed Jesus, yes it was the Romans in a technical sense, but really here is exactly what Jesus believed about his forthcoming death and resurrection (no blame on His own beloved people):

‭‭John‬ ‭10:17‭-‬18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

[17] “The Father loves me because I sacrifice my life so I may take it back again. [18] No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what my Father has commanded.”

Unfortunately, the church has a sordid history of vicious, evil anti semitism. Probably not now and maybe not in your circles. Look up some of Martin Luther’s ( yes, him) statements on Jews for example, and look up the actions of the church in Germany during the holocaust for another example. Also look up “replacement theory”, a widely held philosophy by many many Christians. As a Christian, we must acknowledge that as a group and as individuals, we are capable of evil (obviously), and are often deadly wrong. I believe we must constantly seek truth, fidelity to God’s Word and leave our hearts and consciences open fully, to the leading of God who will always lead us by His Word and His Holy Spirit, away from darkness and deception, to truth and light.

Expand full comment

Yes, Amen to allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us into, and keep us in truth. What you wrote about Martin Luther and the most of the German Church during WW2 is true, and I'm keenly aware of this as a believer but even then the true church that was led by the Spirit of God pulled away from the mainline Lutheran National Church of it's day and became the Confessing Church which opposed Hitler and Nazism. Some of their group in the Confessing Church resisted up to and including assassination attempts against Hitler and unto the giving of their own lives in concentration camps for righteousness in defense of Jewish brothers and sisters. The best book I've found on this subject of the smaller number of German Christians that stood against the status quo is "Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy" by Eric Metaxas.

It's tragic that all the church didn't band together and resist this evil, and Hitler himself hated Christians and viewed them as weak as he was a satanic man himself. Martin Luther's horrible comments against Jewish people came at the end of his life and were used against Jewish people by Hitler.

True followers of Yeshua love Jewish people and will stand with them and defend them. As believers, we follow the Resurrected Jewish Man Jesus, He was and always will be Jewish.❤️

Growing up in the South in the 1970s antisemitism was de rigueur. I used to get asked “What? You don’t believe in Jesus?! What’s wrong with you?” almost daily. And the occasional ass kicking thrown in for good measure. Fun times.

That's horrible. :~(

But that was in the 1970s. I'm looking for present-day examples of Penny's assertion that "too many Christians" are antisemitic.

And 80s, but yes it’s definitely much better. I think a lot changed after 9/11…

Although it’s sometimes still surprising and alarming what people will say openly when they don’t know that you are Jewish.

I recently had someone who didn't know I'm Jewish, tell she had an ad on FB marketplace and people were trying to "Jew her down". I've heard remarks before, but for some reason this hurt me so. Because of current events, I suppose.

Chilblain - Same. I grew up in Greenville South Carolina, home to Bob Jones University. I can’t count the number of times I was told that ‘my people’ killed Jesus. At first, I tried to have civil discussions, but it was exhausting and fruitless. At my first job as an engineer, in 1998, I would get evangelical tracts left on my desk. I thought it was regional, until I ran into actual Holocaust deniers in the Pacific Northwest, at work. I treasure the people who see me for my humanity and not as a token to collect, and who have the moral courage to see through toxic ideologies.

I'm not sure if this type of comment will be welcome here because it is personal and religious in nature, but I was deeply upset by this article so I will speak my mind. I do not disagree with the main premise because I have been sick at heart to see this hatred of Jews. I am a Christian and was raised in evangelical Christian America. My childhood was filled with stories about Israel, God's love for Israel, and prayers for Israel. God will not forsake his people. My community was deeply upset when the Israel was forced to give up the high ground of the Gaza strip. I am not an expert and nowhere near as educated about this topic as the author; however, I can assure you that the notion of "Twisting this is a Christian belief that all Jews were present at, and responsible for, the crucifixion." is not apart of our belief system. Neither Jew nor Gentile understood what Jesus was doing, not even his own disciples. We worship Jesus, who is a JEW. We love Israel and bless Israel, God's chosen people. The enemy hates Israel because God is saving all of humanity through Israel. His promises are never null and void.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” Deuteronomy 6:4. Jesus remarks on this in Mark 12:29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

I don’t know what else we need to hear. I stand with humanity and I know what I stand against. In the end, I know where I will lay myself down if necessary.

“Twisting this is a Christian belief that all Jews were present at, and responsible for, the crucifixion. More than Pilate, more than Judas—a name not chosen randomly—the Jews were damned for deicide.”

I am hardly alone in understanding that ‘this Christian belief’ as stated here was and remains a Christian heresy. The Christian churches to which I have belonged over the past 60+ years believe the Jews to be God’s chosen people for whom Christ died - as He did for all of God’s children. To be clear, someone who claims to be a disciple of Jesus of Nazareth while demonstrating hate for Jewish people is a liar!

My heart breaks for Israel and the Jewish community. It is surreal to live through a time where it is crystal clear how propaganda could have convinced some useful idiots to allow their hate to turn into violence, like in the Holocaust.

Seeing the Hamas/Palestine protests makes me feel ill. Families didn’t even have a day for grief after the horrible attack on the 7th before the concern shifted towards Palestinians. Of course, no decent human wants to see innocent people die on either side of this conflict, but I just can’t fathom how some American progressives and Muslims can not comprehend the gravity of the attack and the lack of support for the Jewish community from these groups is sickening.

I’m chilled by what you are writing as I have been feeling this for a week now. How we so vastly overestimated our worth and contributions to society that would prevent this and how we underestimated how close we Jews really are. The wake up call has been around for years. It’s now blatantly back, unmasked and terrifying. College students barricaded in campus libraries is just the beginning. We must now be united as one, we must guard and protect our communities, we are all Israelis. Am Israel Chai

I’m 67 years old and grew up in the suburbs across the Hudson River where many of my Jewish friends also lived. Our community was basically 1/3 Protestant, 1/3 Catholic, and 1/3 Jewish. Yup, we were aware of our religious differences but they meant little. We were invited to our friends bar mitzvah or bas mitzvah and what a wonderful time we had. I remember parents and family so proud of their children reciting the scripture, all the guys wearing a yarmulke/kippah (gentiles too). After college I moved with my husband and 3 daughters from CA to IL and then settling in VA. for past 30 years where we eventually retired. I am shocked and ashamed by many UVA students and their pro-Palestine protests. This is so college and media driven. Let me remind you I’m from NY and can’t believe they melted the Robert E Lee statue in secret in Charlottesville. How do we learn from our past if we obliterate what and why this West Point graduate chose to fight for his southern roots. Sorry to believe that many young people have no allegiance to there hometowns, family beliefs, the American story. What and why is the real reason more people want to live in the USA than any other country!

We live in a place that more people in the world wish to live in than any other country on our planet! Wish the people who were lucky enough to be born here realized how lucky they are and maybe they should be grateful for their blessings.

It seems to me that what we are experiencing now is another manifestation of a phenomena that began millennia ago. The technology and weapons have grown in reach and lethality, but human nature has not changed in the slightest. Both of our designated World Wars began with an increase in anti-semitism. It appears that it is the lot of humanity to have a periodic conflagration to, if nothing else, demonstrate the precious value of peace.

Of course there are antisemitic people, but I actually don't think that's the root of the anti-Zionist protest we're seeing in progressive circles. These are the same people who say all white people are racists and need to be cleansed with DEI training. They are the same people who say trans-women ARE women and tell us to say ridiculous things like "pregnant men". These are the same people who think you should die if you refused to get vaccinated for covid. They are a type. They think they are moral and right and anyone who disagrees with them about these issues is evil and stupid. They take a side and defend it in the face of objective facts that contradict their side. They defend their side even if it drives them to make absolutely outrageous claims. They will not give in no matter how wrong they are because then they have to admit they aren't so righteous and their enemies aren't so evil. These are the people praising the terrorists and siding with Hamas, they have to do it because if they don't side with Hamas, they aren't sticking to the anti-colonialist guns. It would require them to give ground. Their positions drive them to the edge of a cliff and they would rather jump off of it than admit they are wrong.

Very good observation but there is something fundamentally lacking in these peoples lives. They seem to be incredibly narcissistic and void of real purpose. Does joining whatever the latest outraged group cause is fill that empty void? It is my hope the majority will eventually wake up. I’m not sure what it will take. I find the mindless echoing of hate filled chants chilling. It’s definitely a form of brainwashing.

Anti-Semitism may not be the root of what we’re seeing from progressives, but it’s certainly embedded in the Kool-Aid they have drunk. In the end, it’s splitting hairs. If you tear down posters of kidnapped Jewish children and advocate for organizations whose charter is to exterminate Jews, your motivations are beside the point. You’re antisemitic.

Yeah I don’t think this is because they are antisemites, I think they are dull in their education and misled on a whole host of issues. I am personally becoming weary of this motive-posting stuff. I think it’s safe to say, like you state so well, is bonkers enough at this point they’d drive off a cliff if it meant the right thing to their peers. Doesn’t mean they have anything against living themselves, just so focused on what they perceive their peers believe.

I listened to a BBC anchor "interviewing" an IDF spokesman this morning on NPR in Boston. Actually, she was lecturing him. Thankfully, he wasn't having it, but patiently tried to explain to her that the IDF isn't trying to kill Palestinians. He then said, probably for the millionth time, that the IDF has no choice but to go after Hamas terrorists when they hide behind Palestinian civilians.

Yet the BBC anchor continued to object to this, without disputing the fact that hiding behind civilians is the Hamas strategy. In fact, she said it is a "common practice" of Hamas "militants" to hide behind civilians, as if that somehow justifies it. And she then insisted repeatedly that the IDF retaliation is "not working." Michael Oren is right. Too many so-called journalists in the liberal mainstream media may listen, or pretend to listen, to the Israeli side, but they will never be convinced.

You know how these Democrat-funded Palestinian Rapists are known for blowing up pizza shops and then waiting for the ambulances to arrive to detonate a larger secondary blast? This makes me think they might already have the Iranian Suitcase in North Gaza. Just a thought.

Speaking of which, do you think the Los Angeles Times will release the audio of Muslim Communist Barack Hussein Obama, toasting Rashid Khalidi, before or after the aforementioned suitcase explodes?

Also, when the Democrat-funded Iranian suitcase explodes, killing millions, do you think the Global Democrat Left will finally admit that their perverse and psychopathic vision of themselves as magnanimous, pious, and empathetic wizards, who really just love people with brown skin, was actually nothing more than a deceptive ploy to cover up the fact that they were enabling a second Holocaust by behaving like irresponsible pussies?

My analogy about how, when your roommate lets a rabid dog in the house you aren’t really mad at the dog and, while you have to kill the dog first, you also have to beat the shit out of your roommate, continues to be a good analogy.

Nice work Democrats and two-state appeasers.

Fifteen unemployed racist douchebags with torches does not require explaining.

Tens of thousands of Democrats, who want to exterminate the Jews, marching in every city and at all of our top tier universities, requires explaining and a plan for ideological eradication.

Okay, to be fair, it doesn’t require explaining because everyone already knows that Democrats support Hamas because Democrats are despicable communist sacks of shit.

I am Catholic. I see what you see. My heart breaks. I left my church in my 30's in a defiant flourish. I remember maybe a few years after that, coming home to my apartment in New York on a Friday night. My neighbors across the hall were having Shabbat dinner, reciting the prayers. I leaned my head against my own door, just listening with a longing and sadness in my heart I couldn't understand at the time, but somehow knew meant everything.

Through miracles and grace, I'm back at my Church of birth, and understand deeply where I come from. Know that there are so many brothers and sisters with you, mourning and standing shoulder to shoulder with all of you. I don't know where we are headed, but we will keep the faith with you through everything.
