Merrick Garland needs to be investigated for conflict of interest and abuse of power. Then he needs to be impeached.

Penny, I sincerely hope you will tell us you were not being serious when you made that comment because a public statement like that about a sitting US Supreme Court justice, whether you agree with his politics or not, fits the definition of domestic terrorism. This is not the type of comment responsible adults make, especially not on Bari's substack.

Nancy. Penny is protected from any repercussions due to her progressive privilege.

No doubt Penny is a Rachel Maddow and MSNBC devotee who was fed 24/7 lies and hysteria during the Kavanaugh hearings. NBC was particularly vile in the bad reporting with Leann Caldwell and Kate Kelly actually reporting lies as truth and then it getting picked up on Twitter and the left wing echo chambers. Talk about fake news. It was the democrat treatment of Kavanaugh, especially those democrat blowhards on the judiciary (Whitehouse, Hirono, Booker and especially Harris) that hardened and chastened me forever about the true character and nature of them. As long as I live, Kavanaugh's treatment will always be a turning point for me.

So you only want one point of view when Bari has clearly stated that's not what she wants here? This substack is already proving to be the place where conservatives feel justified in their beliefs because a self-professed moderate centrist is sometimes aligned with them.

In a civilized society, if we don't like an official's politics, we vote them out of office or we have them impeached. We don't murder them, and we don't make jokes about murdering them, especially not in an article about "domestic terrorism."

Incidentally, I'm no fan of Brett Kavenaugh, but no one should ever be murdered or physically attacked because of their politics. If you disagree with that, you really don't belong on this substack.

Nancy2001. The problem is the primary system - which is true for both the left and right. Because most moderates do not bother voting on primaries, moderate Dems are at risk to challenges from the progressives (who are organized and funded by people like Soros) and the moderates repubs by far right.

Truth is the republicans need to make room in the party for moderate Dems to switch affiliation - by agreeing to support the moderate Dems against challenges in Republican primary if they do switch.

Right now, the moderate Dems have huge power but are afraid to use it. All it would take to get Pelosi attention is for a handful to switch parties , then the progressives are dead in the water.

I can't POSSIBLY agree more. The PROBLEM is partisanship. Hard to get people to change, no matter WHAT it is. VERY hard. Me? Trying to cut back on smokes. Easier to switch parties than do that. That's just me.

The whole billionaire funded "transgender" activist movement is a dangerous load of late capitalist bunk. There's no such thing as "gender," and it is not assigned at birth. There's only biological sex which is determined during the moment of conception. People cannot change their biological sex no matter how many drugs they take or how many body parts they hack off. There's no such thing as a boy in a girl's body or vice versa. Children should never be put on puberty blockers. Teenage girls should not be encouraged to have double mastectomies, take cross sex hormones, or have phalloplasties. Men do not have babies. I could go on and on all afternoon about this, but life is too short to spend any more time answering your question

Expand full comment

God help your children if any of them have identity issues. You'll drive them to suicide. So caring.

Expand full comment

Don't make me laugh. I'm not falling for that tired, old suicide trope. That's a well known, cheap trick used to intimidate parents into shutting up and falling in line with the big trans program pushed by the money grubbing, autogynephile billionaires and their useful idiot activists. And if "because. suicide" is the best argument you can come up with, you might as well leave this substack now because no one here believes it.

If a child claims they're"transgender," they have serious psychological problems, including autism, anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. Those problems need intensive psychotherapy, the one effective treatment that your gender bending fellow travelers forbid them to have. Encouraging anyone one who's mentally ill to believe they can become the opposite sex is the perfect recipe for an eventual suicide.

And as for"caring." Your billionaire autogynephile overlords, ain't in this to help anyone but themselves. They're working their well padded asses off to create a brave new world where they can prance about in designer maternity dresses and give birth to babies gestated inside their high tech, transplanted wombs. And just where did those wombs come from? Why it was just some medical waste, recycled from a sixteen year old girl who claimed she was a he and got a hysterectomy a few weeks after her breasts were chopped off.

I couldn't love this more if I tried. Thank you so much Ms. Maron for writing this piece. I was literally cheering as I read it.

Much of my career has been devoted to studying and publishing about terrorism so I know a bit about this topic. What is striking when I observe the past week's actions by the Biden Administration and AG Garland is that it's a well-known and well-used tactic that many regimes have utilized to silence political opponents. Don't like what your opponent has to say? Label them a terrorist and suddenly they can be legally and easily silenced, if not removed, from the political landscape. This tactic has no place in American politics and Biden should be ashamed.

The fact that Biden and AG Garland decided to utilize this tactic is perhaps the most important and dangerous sign that we've moved into a new place in our domestic discourse. It cannot be allowed to stand. Regardless of one's political persuasion, every parent, every voter, and every taxpayer needs to send an explicit and immediate message to the White House, their representatives, and their op-ed pages that this is a step too far and will not be tolerated.

Notwithstanding the subsequent disclosure of AG Garland's conflict-of-interest given his son-in-law's livelihood relies upon CRT training in schools and districts, and the hints (still to be verified) that this "letter" and process had roots in September White House meetings, the precedent being established by the Biden Administration and AG Garland to target parents as political opponents for engaging in constitutionally protected speech is chilling. Certainly we saw the effects in an earlier era and with a man named Joe McCarthy what the price is when swathes of political opponents can be painted with broad strokes as "enemies of the people."

Ultimately, one has to consider why the Biden Administration, AG Garland, educational administrators, and school boards (not to mention a certain VA gubernatorial candidate) are so very concerned about parents scrutinizing what they're doing in the classroom to their children. What do they have to hide?

Expand full comment

Also to uncover, who is pulling the strings of Biden and Garland, who seem to be trojan horses, nice guy Kerenskys to backround Bolsheviks who see people as sheep to be culled and herded, sacrificial lambs to their ideology

I hope Maud Maron wins her seat on New York's City Council. She's a voice of calm reason, and it infuriates me that nonviolent people like her are being investigated and labeled as "domestic terrorists."

What's happening in the schools today is beyond comprehension. If I had school age children, I would have to homeschool them to prevent them from being brainwashed by all the gender and antiracisim propaganda. The US is beginning to ape the worst excesses of China's Cultural Revolution.

Expand full comment

Not really. The worst excess of China's Cultural Revolution included things like Buddhist monks being murdered by having their brains removed through their eye-sockets with spoons. And in between that worst and the things being emulated by the woke, there were also things like ordinary murders without torture and forcible relocation of intellectuals from cities to farms.

Did you happen to catch my use of the word "beginning?" The decade is still young. Dial the calendar forward a few years, and we'll see what Ibrahim Kendi has up his sleeve once he crowns himself dictator of anti-racism.

I did, but I also noticed the phrase "worst excesses". Unless there's some very recent news I've not heard, they'd not begun imitating those.

Expand full comment

When you destroy a person's career and livelihood in business or academia because they refuse to rubber stamp the woke party line, you've effectively sending that person off to the countryside to pick crops and spread horse manure.

Moreover, California's SB 132, which became law earlier this year, states that any biological male inmate, even those with intact, functional penises who were convicted of violent crimes like murder and rape, can request a transfer to a woman's prison merely by claiming to be "transgender." Women inmates, most of whom are in for nonviolent offenses like shoplifting, have already been beaten, raped and impregnated by their "transgender" (biological male) cell mates.

These unfortunate women prisoners are not allowed to defend themselves, and if they complain about having to share a cell with a biological man, they will be labeled transphobic, and their sentences will be lengthened. The situation is so out of hand, women prisoners in California prisons are now being given condoms and instructions on how to secure an abortion. And if the so called Equality Act, which Biden supports, ever becomes US law, this barbaric and misogynistic practice will spread to every state in the union.

This is as frightening and excessive as anything Chairman Mao ever tried to do. Or do you think it's no big deal for a biological woman to be beaten, raped, and impregnated against her will?

No dissent is allowed, and if dissent is chosen, the gov't will come knocking (or crashing) on your door. I don’t remember who said it, but the Democrat party left me. My views are more or less where they have always been, but the leftward progressive lurch is so extreme that only the woke and elites need to apply. The irony is that some positions that were secondary have now been made primary because of the focus of the tyrannical. A good example is race. I am a POC and have “lived” the experience. I thought the worst was behind us. Now the hyper attention on race is creating a new racism that is hard to ignore, to the detriment of all. Only six? I'd have dated it to sometime during one of the Bush the Younger administrations. They were out of power then, so it was less noticeable.

I wouldn't say it wasn't pervasive though until about 6 years ago. It's like most Republicans don't believe the Earth is only 10,000 years old but a few extremely evangelicals do and the number is not a growing trend.

In the late 90's and early 00's most Democrats embraced open classical liberal ideals just like most Republicans did. Both believed in free markets though there were some minor differences in how much government regulation was needed. The single biggest divide was abortion. Now, the two parties are talking a different language on almost every issue.

I think the Internet, like the pamphlet wars of the 1600's, created a massive outflow of ideas but there was no real check on the quality of the ideas being presented. The "woke left" took this and ran with it.

I think the "like" button added to social media around 2012 lit a fire on things.

In early February, political reporter and Nancy Pelosi biographer Molly Ball published a Time magazine article detailing how, as she put it, “a well-funded cabal of powerful people, ranging across industries and ideologies, working together behind the scenes to influence perceptions, change rules and laws, steer media coverage and control the flow of information” had rigged the election to secure a Biden victory.

I don't think you can understand English well. I never once said people are "dying by enormous MASSES of people" from the COVID vaccines simply it has killed 2X more people in the than all other vaccines int he previous 30 years.

Source is CDC which places the fatality rate of the COVID vaccine at 20 deaths per million doses. Do the math: That is lots of deaths and it is much higher than the death rate by COVID for kids 5-18 years of age.

President Trump did NOTHING totalitarian. He fought hard for individual rights. His foreign policy was entirely focused on opposing the worst offenders: Russia, Iran and Communist China, as well as smaller offenders from North Korea to Venezuela.

He strongly supported countries that value human rights and freedom. The Abraham Accords are a wonderful example of this. Five Muslim-majority countries recognized Israel, the one country in the Middle East where women have full rights, LGBTQ people can live, and all religions are welcome.

Trump was the first President to support LGBTQ rights, and he already did so years before he was elected. He supported women's rights through his words and actions, unlike the disastrous Obama administration which acted against women's rights (the Iran 'deal' was the worst action against women's rights in decades, perhaps ever, but was just one of many such actions).

How are these actions totalitarian? They are all the exact opposite.

"Any thinking person can only judge an elected official by policies and results."

Stop. That is not true at all and you should know better.

For one thing, a person's character does matter, absolutely. To say it shouldn't be part of the equation is to deny your own humanity.

For another, "results" is not the end-all and be-all of political effectiveness. The Ends does NOT justify the means. It matters HOW you get results, just as much as the results themselves. To say the 'how' doesn't matter is to disregard the complete morality of a given action or policy.

Expand full comment

Do you prefer the "polite lie" or the "brutal truth". All to often, people take the "polite lie" in politics as being a proxy for "character".

At the end of the day, a politician is judged by what they SAY they will do and what the actually ACCOMPLISH (or at least expend the political capital to attempt to accomplish.

Expand full comment

Putting character aside for the moment, what the hell did Trump accomplish?

Expand full comment

He ran on trying to secure the southern border from mass illegal immigration. Given the mainstream press can't separate legal VS illegal immigration, he spent lots of political capital doing this (and I would say is doing a much better job than the current regime).

He ran on moving The US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. You can agree or disagree on this but he fulfilled that promise.

He ran on working on getting better trade deals with China. You can argue if he did but he did get forced technology transfers stopped.

He ran on getting a rework of NAFTA. You can argue if the deal was better or worse but he is the first president since its inception to get any significant changes on it.

He ran on decreasing US foreign military involvement. Compare his lists of new wars/military actions VS Clinton, Bush, Bush or Obama.

He ran on lowering the corporate tax rate. You can argue if repatriating $100's of billions of off shore held dollars was good/bad, but he followed through.

He promised to appoint pro life judges. You can agree/disagree on the abortion argument but he followed through. NOTE: This is a far more complex topic than most progressives give it and much more sensitive than most conservatives give it.

Trump has faults. He does not use data and acts impulsivly. He is self centered, bombastic and grandiose but most of his final policies were not that bad.

--------------

Compare this with Obama:

Within the first 100 days, I will close Gitmo.

I was at an Obama Campaign rally in Chicago in 2007. The crowd went wild. It was a BIG issue to the crowd. He did nothing on that promise.

Garland will marshal all the forces of the FBI, state, and local government to address domestic terrorism allegedly wrought by Moms and Dads who don’t want CRT taught to their children. CRT is a racist, anti-America program based on Marxist ideology.

Fascinatingly, Merrick’s daughter and her husband stand to make a lot of money off CRT.

Rebecca Garland married Xan Tanner who is a founder and the president of Panorama Education, an analytical software and services company in Boston, The New York Times reported.

It does need to be stopped. It’s as though there is a dark intelligence behind these people—Brandon, Garland, Pelosi that makes it impossible for ordinary people to push back against their narrative/rule. It’s absurd to call parents domestic terrorists and to surveil their children with these tests. Yet hear we are. It’s also funky how incestuous these leaders are along with children/relatives that exert this kind of influence.

Yes. And artificial intelligence grows more powerful by the day. As the historian Yuval Noah Harari warns us, AI will soon know more about you than you know about yourself. And when that happens, you will lose your last shred of autonomy and agency.

The threat to privacy is much bigger than CRT or trans. That's why we need to protect the personal privacy of children and adults and keep our private lives private and free from the prying eyes of government and business.

CRT shouldn't be banned entirely, it's one of many socio-economic theories. And I don't believe banning it outright would be a good move for any idea, not just that one.

The issue is not that CRT is being allowed to be discussed, I mean it's not like it's entirely B.S. The issue is 1) that nothing else is being allowed to be discussed that contradicts it, and 2) it's being used as a framework for grade/high school curricula with almost no discussion about it. Many proponents of it seem to think talking about anything at all that contradicts CRT is evil and needs to die...that's a huge problem.

All theories, no matter how scared or profane, should be able to be discussed in a college academic setting. And if they want to use a certain theory for young schooling, especially something as controversial as CRT, it needs to be voted on.

So no, banning it outright is not the answer. It would be infinitely more beneficial to all if the dangers of some of CRT's tenets could be laid bare for every one to see. America needs a kumbaya moment around the proverbial campfire.

Expand full comment

CRT, and books based on it, belong in higher education next to the Mein Kampf and the Communist Manifesto so people can read it, understand it to realize how murderous ideas take root.

Your #1 point is why it is 100% BS. It insulates itself from any and all critics. As a Critical Theory, it rejects rationality. As a Critical Theory it promotes narrative truth over objective truth. As a Critical Race Theory it elevates worth based on skin color. As a Critical Theory, it starts with a conclusion and accepts only data which supports that conclusion.

Would you agree if people voted for teaching nazi propaganda in grade school? Would you object or say… well they voted for it.

Expand full comment

I agree ONE HUNDRED PERCENT (except for one teeny, tiny think).

You see, I've been studying this CRT business for about six months. SCRUTINIZING it. And, to be blunt, there aren't any redeeming qualities about the legal theory that was based on '60s NIHILISM. In the 70s Critical Theory that came outta that. That CRT came outta that was just pure GARBAGE. What d'ya expect from NIHILISTS? But it was when they said, back in the 80s, that CRT was a POLITICALL MOVEMENT, then all that garbage about it being a political theory was just a bunch-a crap. It was a POLITICAL MOVEMENT, from start to finish, based on Marxism. Those rumors are true. In mid-2000s, they turned ACTIVISTS. And the rest is history. Now what's called TODAY as CRT has expanded BEYOND all that folly. It includes BLM, whose founders were Marxists. And the 1619 Project, was pure unadulterated factually incorrect GARBAGE is piled on top-a all that. This is being encouraged by the monied interests, and those with power, for their OWN nefarious benefit, no doubt.

But all that going under the CRT umbrella, put together? They've taken the position that it CAN"T be contradicted, because if people saw the Emporer has ZERO clothes, then they might not be the subservient patsies they've been up till now, right?

IMHO. ICBW. Back to WORK.
